Recently, the trailer for the long-awaited Aquaman sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was released. Australian director James Wan has returned as the movie’s director and seems to be absolutely ready to sweep the audiences right off their feet with his excellent filmmaking skills that have already been seen in Aquaman.

Despite the controversies surrounding the movie due to Amber Heard’s highly publicized legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, fans are quite enthusiastic about the upcoming movie. It is confirmed that Heard will be portraying her character Mera in the movie even if her screen time will be less than what it was originally going to be.

James Wan Believes Aquaman 2 is The Perfect Sequel

The latest Aquaman 2 trailer has a lot to offer so it is a given that the movie is also going to be a lot to take in. However, fans need not worry as James Wan has done some explaining about his ambition regarding this latest DC movie. Following the trailer’s release, some io9 journalists managed to get a chance to discuss the movie with Wan.

James Wan who has directed some of the best movies of all time such as Insidious, The Conjuring 2, and Saw, has said that this movie is very close and special to him. Speaking to io9 journalists, he said:

“It’s a movie that’s very close to me. It’s very special to me, especially from where we started with the first movie and with where we’re going with this one. For me, it really feels like The Lost Kingdom is like the perfect companion with the first Aquaman. It’s like one and two just feel like it fits together. So I hope you guys feel the same way eventually when you see the final film.”

Wan was the director of the first installment of this franchise which became the highest-grossing DCU film with a box-office collection of over $1.148 billion worldwide. It managed to surpass legendary director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. So, if he is insisting that the sequel is good enough to fit with the first movie then it has to be true.

Aquaman 2 Will Explore Family Dynamics

While in the first movie, Aquaman is seen exploring his identity, the second movie will find him shouldering a lot of responsibilities both as a father and the Kind of Atlantis. Addressing this, in a live Q&A during the debut of the sequel’s trailer, James Wan told IGN that Furious 7 served as a major inspiration for this movie.

Another revelation that Wan made was that he has purposefully kept the Aquaman universe separate from the rest of the DC universe. He explained his reasoning for doing so, saying that he does not want the events happening in the bigger DC universe to affect his movies and hence, there are no other DC characters in the movie apart from the ones that are directly involved in the first movie.
