Robert Pattinson shares he cannot smell anything while working

Actor Robert Pattinson, who has been the face of Dior Homme Fragrance since 2012, recently shared during an interview with Esquire about his new promotional film for the fragrance. He shared that the team drew inspiration from archetypal characters like James Dean and Marlon Brando. He mentioned during the interview,

My character wants to experience everything. He’s never quite at home. He’s trying to define himself in quite a passionate way. And I think as the campaign has progressed, he’s become more romantic and sensual. 

The actor was also asked about his ability to turn his sense of smell on and off, to which he explained that it was strange and that he had noticed that about it in his last job.

Pattinson added that while he was working, people kept apologizing for how they smelled, and it puzzled him because he couldn’t smell anything at all. The actor further said,

Then I realized that when I’m working, I just don’t have any sense of those moments…I’m almost completely inside my own body. I’m not aware of anything other than people’s facial expressions. I don’t know. It’s a strange ability to have.

Explaining further, the actor noted that it’s because he is extremely focused on his work, which is why he is not able to focus on anything that goes on around him.

He joked that someone could just do the worst fart around him and he wouldn’t even know. He also revealed that George Clooney is the best-smelling Batman, according to him.

Robert Pattinson shares his experience of working on Mickey 17

Mickey 17 is one of the highly awaited movies of 2025, which stars Pattinson alongside Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, and Naomi Ackie. In an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, Robert Pattinson shared his experience of working with the filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, stating:

He’s an unusual guy. Everyone on set was like, ‘What is happening?’ The movies you like most are the ones that feel so impossible at the beginning. It’s such a leap of faith—just sticking the landing is cool.

The actor shared that his first thought when he read the script was, ‘Oh, I want to do a Jim Carrey thing.’ But Pattinson added that playing a victim of constant cruelty in the way Carrey portrayed Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber was an incredibly tight rope to walk, but it was a challenge that he took up.

Filmmaker Bong Joon-ho also shared with the publication that Pattinson was eager to contribute, offering his insights to revise dialogue and enlightening them with humor and knowledge of slang.

He mentioned that there is something about Robert Pattinson that naturally draws one to sympathy, and it feels like he would endure hardship and injustice with an innocent smile.

Mickey 17 is scheduled to be released on March 7, 2025.
