“I learned about family from Fast and Furious”: Aquaman 2 Director Thanks Vin Diesel For His Huge Impact on Jason Momoa’s DCU Movie
Jason Momoa’s Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is one of the most anticipated DC projects of 2023. The sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Aquaman is set to hit the theatres in December this year. The Fast X actor has been the face of the superhero franchise since its inception.
Filmmaker James Wan spoke about his upcoming movie during an interview with a reputed media outlet. The Conjuring director even mentioned the connection between Vin Diesel’s action drama franchise Fast And Furious and Jason Momoa-led Aquaman.
Aquaman Director James Wan On The Fast And Furious Connection With Aquaman 2
During an interview, with Collider, James Wan spoke about his upcoming project and how directing Vin Diesel’s Fast 7, helped him learn a lot about familial bonds. Fast 7 is one of the best installments of the billion-dollar action drama franchise. During the filming of the seventh installment, actor Paul Walker lost his life in a tragic car accident. James Wan mentioned-
“I learned about family from Fast and Furious, you guys, so it’s coming into play in a big way. You can see a bit of that played into this in a big, big way.”
He further added-
“No, seriously — you know, the family aspect in this film was something that was very important for me. And you can have Vin to thank for that.”
The director even pointed out the similarity between both franchises. The main motto behind the Fast and Furious franchise is centered around family, and from the Aquaman 2 trailer, it is evident that Arthur Curry is a father now. Jason Momoa is also connected with the Vin Diesel-led franchise as he was seen playing the antagonist character of Dante in Fast X.
James Wan Addresses Amber Heard’s Comment About Her Screen-Time In Aquaman 2
During the defamation trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, the Zombieland actor had spoken about her association with the James Wan-directed Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. The actor plays the character of Mera, the love interest of Arthur Curry portrayed by Jason Momoa. During her interview with the media outlet People, she commented on the reduced screen presence of her character in the upcoming project. She claimed that it was a result of her negative public image. She had said-
“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”

Recently, the Aquaman director clarified that the sequel was written with a standalone perspective for Arthur. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he addressed Amber Heard’s remark on her screen presence. He said-
“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one was a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
