“I probably have a lot more brain space”: Jeremy Renner Reveals One Unexpected Way in Which His Snowplow Accident Changed His Life for the Better
Popular for his portrayal of Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, actor Jeremy Renner is one of the most versatile actors in the industry. He started his career by appearing in independent movies and over the years, the actor has been one of the fan favorites, especially with his performances in movies including The Hurt Locker, The Town, Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol, American Hustle, and more.
Renner stars as Michael McLusky in Paramount’s crime thriller television series Mayor of Kingstown, in which his performance has been highly appreciated. Now dubbed as a real-life Avenger, Renner shared in a recent interview about the good thing that happened to him following his 2023 snowplow accident in addition to talking about his recovery.
Jeremy Renner reflects on his recovery from his near-death experience
Marvel actor Jeremy Renner appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show recently, where the actor reflected on his recovery from the 2023 snowplow accident in addition to his return to acting. He also recalled that he had 38 broken bones and a crushed skull as a result of being run over by a snowplow to save his nephew.
During his conversation about recovery, Clarkson asked the actor about his return to Mayor of Kingstown, and he said that for the upcoming season, they have dived into a lot more of the emotional context of a situation that occurs. Talking about his return, Renner was asked if he was still willing to do his stunt, to which he replied that there was a scene in the first episode, but he refused because he knew he couldn’t do it.
Renner added that everyone on the set was treating him pretty delicately because he kind of needed to lean on people physically and emotionally. The actor noted that with time, he got stronger and was able to do his stunts, and it became a milestone in his life. He mentioned that someday one has to pull the band-aid off and kind of figure it out on their own. Kelly Clarkson asked Jeremy Renner about how he was able to film the upcoming series;
We work like three long days, like, you know, half days for all week, like, hard to do, you know. Movie sets are very difficult because of the scheduling; there’s a lot of moving places; it’s a kind of carnival life, so I didn’t want to put too much pressure on the production.
Renner revealed that his schedule was almost like that of a child actor, as he could work only certain hours. But he felt so much stronger by the end of the show compared to how he felt five months after the accident.
Jeremy Renner reveals one thing that he finds easy after his accident
Kelly Clarkson asked him if he finds anything easy in terms of acting, and he said his photographic memory from the accident got better. He clarified that that maybe it’s not because of the accident but the fact that he just does not pay attention to most things in life anymore. The Marvel actor shared with the singer-host during the conversation that he does not have any small stuff to worry about anymore, as he just does not care about those things. Renner mentioned,
I probably have a lot more sort of brain space and power than like who didn’t have a memory.
The host asked the actor how his daughter dealt with the accident, and he explained that he saw the fear on her face for the first time, adding that the reality of what transpired set it. Jeremy Renner shared that he asked his daughter to wait for him, telling her that he has 38 broken bones and they are all going to heal as long as she waits for him.
The Hawkeye actor noted during the interview that anybody who cared for him went through stuff following his accident. However, music helped him, as he was able to work and transform his emotions into a song titled Wait which Renner explained that a friend encouraged him to work on. He concluded that music was cathartic for him as well as his daughter, who plays piano.
The actor shared that music was a great outlet for him, as he always loves to find something that one can do for real and if that can become healing then it’s even better. Jeremy Renner’s Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 will be streaming from 2nd June 2024 on Paramount+.
