“I really do not like Hollywood”: Tom Holland Doesn’t Care About Spider-Man Success, Looking for a Way Out of Show Business
Actor Tom Holland is regarded as one of the most gifted actors of the current generation. He is known for his unwavering commitment to the projects he takes on and his willingness to go above and beyond to fully embody the roles he plays.
However, it shouldn’t come as a shock to the audience to learn that despite having such enormous responsibility, particularly since he began playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor occasionally considers quitting everything and leading a normal life.
Tom Holland opens up about Hollywood Hype
Tom Holland, who plays Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently appeared on an episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty Podcast where he mentioned during their conversation that he is happy that he has been able to keep in touch with his friends, his family, and listen to the lessons, not getting caught up in the Hollywood hype.
Holland added,
“I really am a massive fan of making movies, but I really do not like Hollywood. It is not for me. Business really scares me. I understand I am a part of that business and I enjoy my kinds of interactions with it, but that being said, I am always looking for ways to remove myself from it, to kind of just live as normal a life as possible.”
The actor acknowledged that the long-form interview is something that he would never typically do, but since he is a fan of Jay Shetty, he made an exception for him and said yes to a long-personal interview. Earlier in an interview while promoting The Crowded Room, he mentioned that he is apprehensive about returning as Peter Parker for Spider-Man 4, explaining,
“There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
Tom Holland talks about handling fame in Hollywood
Talking about the business, and handling fame, Holland mentioned to Shetty that the thought that is ongoing in his mind is to not lose himself. He further adds, “I’ve seen so many people come before and lose themselves and I’ve had friends that I’ve grown up with that aren’t friends of mine anymore because they’ve lost themselves to this business.”
The British actor also mentioned that he is now focused on what makes him happy i.e., his family, his friends, carpentry, golf, the charity that his mom runs, and noted “That is the stuff that makes me really happy and that’s the stuff that I should protect.”
Tom Holland was also asked about his relationship with Zendaya, to which he said that it’s something that he keeps the most sacred, as they both strongly feel that they want to keep their relationship private and away from the public eye, as it is the healthiest way to move on as a couple.
The Spider-Man actor pointed out when asked how he keeps up and approaches his life as a celebrity now, “So I do try to keep as removed from it as possible — you’ll never see me at an award show that I don’t have to be at. I’m never going to a red carpet event that I’m not in the film of. I don’t want attention when I don’t need it.”

Tom Holland on taking a break from work
It was previously known that the actor had decided to take a break from work after he finished filming for The Crowded Room and is currently in his eighth month of break. Talking about the same, he said that even though he feels that he thrives when he works under pressure, he does not hesitate to get a break from work and get back home.
Tom Holland mentioned, “I enjoy it while I can, and then when it becomes a bit much I kind of become a bit of a recluse and I disappear. I come back to Kingston, I play golf, I play tennis, hang out with my friends and my family, do a pub quiz and all that sort of stuff.”
The British actor lastly said to Jay Shetty that as he gets older, everything gets easier.
