“I Respect Kevin Enormously… But…”: Harrison Ford Only Agreed to Yellowstone Prequel ‘1923’ as He “Didn’t Want to Dirty up the Road” With Kevin Costner
Harrison Ford has played all kinds of roles in major franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. However, his appearance in the 1923 series as Jacob Dutton was rather unexpected but he still managed to fit into the role perfectly.
For those unaware, the series 1923 is the prequel to the 2018 series Yellowstone which revolves around the family led by John Dutton played by Kevin Costner, and how they deal with various issues on their ranch.

What did Harrison Ford say about working in 1923?
As mentioned earlier, Harrison Ford is playing the role of Jacob Dutton. He is the great grand uncle of John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner. While one would expect that the two would’ve gotten in touch regarding their roles, that was surprisingly not the case.
Speaking about it, Ford revealed that he wanted to form his own ideas for the project with the co-creator of the show, Taylor Sheridan, and felt that he did not need to contact Costner regarding anything related to 1923 or Yellowstone. He said (H/T Good House Keeping):
“I wanted my own singular relationship with (co-creator and showrunner) Taylor (Sheridan) to rule my behavior and my thoughts. I didn’t want to dirty up the road with somebody else’s.”
Further, Harrison Ford also spoke about what he thinks of Kevin Costner. While things may seem a bit off from the outside, it looks like the two have nothing but respect for each other. However, they would like to stay in their own lanes. Ford suggested that he respects Costner, however, he ended by stating that he is “on his own path”.
“I respect Kevin enormously and his body of work and everything he’s done, and the work he’s doing in Yellowstone, but I’m on my own path.”
Why did Yellowstone come to a close?
After being released in 2018 and having a rather successful run for five seasons, the Yellowstone series was abruptly brought to a close after the completion of its fifth season. According to the Daily Mail, the show ended because of the rising tensions between Kevin Costner and the co-creator of the show, Taylor Sheridan. It was reported that the two had creative clashes and couldn’t figure out a way to work together. The outlet reported:
“He just felt like ‘Yellowstone’ is headed in a direction that was not in line with their initial vision, and he was met with criticism, including that he should just stick to acting.”
It is worth noting that Kevin Costner also served as an executive producer for the show. Regardless of how things ended, Costner is grateful for the opportunity he had with the show.
