Theirs is a friendship that never really took center stage. Many were not aware that the two actors were close. In all likelihood, it is only natural for two figures, who have been entrenched in the glamorous heights of fame and fortune for decades, to forge a bond of friendship.

Having worked together in hit films Burn After Reading and the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, George Clooney and Brad Pitt have proven to be a dynamic duo onscreen. Their chemistry is not just for when the cameras are rolling. They are cordial off-screen too. It is a friendship that has survived the tumultuous world of Hollywood and stood the test of time. However, this camaraderie finds its origin when times weren’t easy.

GQ Magazine recently interviewed the actors, where Pitt shared how Clooney’s genuineness and sincerity contributed to his brotherly affection towards him. As Pitt told the magazine:

When George first stood out to me is really when Princess Diana died in the crash, and George got up to speak about it.

Pitt has often spoken up on how invasive and violating the paparazzi have been. And Clooney speaking so strongly on the subject immediately made him respect the co-star. As Pitt said:

It’s really invasive to know people are out there and they’re hiding in the bushes. It’s really a shitty, shitty feeling. And so George got up and commented on that after Diana, Princess of Wales. And that’s when I saw ‘this guy’s got something that the rest of us don’t’. Like, I saw the leader at that moment.

With this tragic incident, Pitt found a newfound respect and sincerity for his co-star, and the two started a friendship.

Pitt is referring to the time when the world was shaken by the loss of Princess Diana and the way she was taken away from it. Clooney vociferously vocalized his opinions and called out the paparazzi for how they played a role in the Princess’s death.

Speaking to some reporters in front of the Screen Actors Guild office in Los Angeles, the star said (via Vanity Fair):

Princess Di is dead, and who should we see about that? The driver of the car? The paparazzi? Or the magazines and papers who purchase these pictures and make bounty hunters out of photographers? If you weren’t hiding behind the profession of journalism, you would be an accomplice to a crime, and you would go to jail.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s close friendship is quite wholesome. It is all the more joyous that it is based on sincerity and respect.
