Josh Brolin Almost Couldn’t Forget Losing a Role To Ben Affleck

Marvel star Josh Brolin who plays Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe revealed that he was offered to play Batman in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice along with other acclaimed actors from the superhero universe but couldn’t secure the role and it ultimately went to Ben Affleck who was then showered with high criticism.

According to Comic Book Movie, Josh Brolin talked about not getting the role and how it felt when Batman was secured by Affleck. He mentioned:

“No. I mean, I started thinking about it personally…you know, what are they going to do with this older, wiser version? I liked the idea and I thought it was a really interesting idea.”

Even though Brolin mentioned not being envious of Ben Affleck, he did seem to be disappointed with the makers for not choosing him as the wiser caped crusader in Zack Snyder‘s hit movie. When it was announced that Affleck was set to play Batman, fans were furious and didn’t want the Argo star to helm the role after disliking his involvement in Daredevil. However, Josh Brolin defended the actor and said:

“Ben’s got so much flak from this, I actually got angry for him, not at him. Everyone else is angry at him! I’m really curious to see what he does and what Zack does. I’ll see the movie. I’ll be a fan to see whatever version they’re going to do. But how do you bring up a movie that Ben did 10 or 15 years ago and…I mean, c’mon, the guy has grown and matured, and just look at the work he’s doing now. I’m going to defend him literally until death!”

However, after the movie was out, one of the reasons for its success was Affleck’s performance and even fans and critics appreciated his role. Batman vs Superman was lauded for the action scenes and portrayal of other superheroes.

The Marvel star had a reason for desiring to be cast in Zack Snyder’s movie. He was curious about the risks and challenges involved in making Batman Vs Superman and this became a major reason for him to get excited about winning the part. He added in the Happy Sad Confused podcast that:

“Something that is set up to not work at all, or to work flyingly — I like those odds, I like playing with those odds. I’m like, ‘Am I the guy who’s gonna make it all fail?”

Brolin humorously mentions playing Batman when he is 80 years old, and that would be fun for him. Even though the Deadpool 2 actor didn’t contribute to the movie, he secured an even bigger role as the formidable and villainous Thanos in the MCU who’s one of the major discordant forces.
