“I supported her career”: Kanye West is Confused After Nicki Minaj Refuses His Sincere Request to Clear New Body Collaboration
Nicki Minaj and Kanye West are no doubt exceptionally talented artists in the industry who are also known for their involvement in controversies/beef with artists from time to time. Minaj is often regarded as the Queen of Rap, whereas West is often regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
The two exceptionally talented artists first collaborated in 2010 for West’s colossal record Monster, which was an instant hit. They also collaborated on Nicki Minaj’s 2012 Pink Friday for the song Blazing. Kanye West calls out Nicki Minaj for her refusal to clear New Body
Kanye West posted a screenshot of a text message that he sent to Nicki Minaj asking her to clear their collaborative song New Body on her new album, Pink Friday 2. The text did not receive an immediate response, but West was seen putting the hip-hop artist on a blast by saying to a crowd during his upcoming album Vultures listening sessions in Vegas. He said in now a viral clip;
“I made that girl rewrite her verse three times for Monster. I supported her career. You understand what I’m saying? So I don’t know what it is.”
Minaj and West recorded New Body back in 2018 featuring Ty Dolla $ing for West’s album, but due to reasons, it never made it to the album but was leaked in 2019. Some fans believed that the lyrics of the song promoted an individual getting a new body after medical procedures (plastic surgery) and pointed out that it could be a tribute to his then and now ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
After the track leaked in 2019, West addressed the public by stating that he was trying to rework the lyrics by making it less s**ually explicit for his album. Jesus is King. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, shared with The Shade Room that they weren’t seeing the song eye-to-eye anymore, especially after West wanted to transform the song into a gospel song.
According to reports, Minaj prompted West to release the original version of the song as a clip of her verse went viral. The artist spoke to Hot 106 back in 2022 and mentioned that
“I respect everybody and where they are in life, where they are spiritually. New Body is the biggest hit record that never came out. Everybody knows that’s the hit that got away. Had New Body been out when West was not in his gospel era, then it would’ve seen the light of the day.”
She further added that it’s unfortunate that it didn’t add that she thinks that the ship has sailed and it is what it is.
Nicki Minaj on why she won’t clear Kanye West collaboration song New Body
In an Instagram live, Nicki Minaj, who is excited and thrilled for her new album Pink Friday 2, decided to address the gossip around why she won’t clear New Body for her album. She said,
“Now regarding Kanye, that train has left the station okay? No disrespect in any way. I just put out a brand-new album. Now why would I put out a song that has been out for three years? C’mon guys.”
Minaj continued to share with her fans about her album, stating via People,
“This entire album will be the biggest gift I have ever given humanity thus far. I can stand by that. I bet any amount of money that Pink Friday 2 the album is going to make people fall in love immediately.”
