“I think I would really get a kick out of that”: Olivia Cooke Wants to Play a Wild Bloodthirsty House of the Dragon Role in the Series Who is a Fan Favorite
House of the Dragon actors Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy sat together to have a chat about the season two of the hit HBO show. The Game of Thrones prequel is a hit with fans, and season two is set to bring even more drama, dragons, and epic battles.
Cooke and D’Arcy play Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen, respectively, who are on opposite sides of a brewing civil war. Despite their on-screen rivalry, the actresses are close friends in real life. When the two recently sat down together, Cooke also mentioned her dream role in Westeros.
Olivia Cooke Eyes This Fierce Role in House of the Dragon
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, actresses Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy revealed their dream roles if they could play someone else in the show. Cooke is drawn to the chaotic energy of Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith), saying of the character:
I think I would, as Olivia, would really benefit from that sort of purging of all that rage. I think I would really get a kick out of that.
Cooke loves Daemon’s wild energy and wishes she could play a character like him to express her own intense feelings and rage. On the other hand, D’Arcy would love to take on the carefree Aegon Targaryen (played by Tom Glynn-Carney). She said:
For similar reasons I would quite like to play Aegon. He gets to continually shirk responsibility as opposed to taking it deeply seriously. He gets the fun bits.
D’Arcy wants to play Aegon because he gets to have fun and avoid responsibilities, unlike characters who are always serious and burdened.
Olivia Cooke Talked About the Cut S*x Scene in House of the Dragon
Olivia Cooke revealed that a steamy scene she filmed in the House of the Dragon ended up not making the final cut. The scene, described as “animalistic” and “messy,” was ultimately deemed unnecessary by showrunner Ryan Condal.
The actress said she enjoyed filming the scene despite its intensity. However, she did disagree slightly with Condal’s decision, believing it offered some character development. She said in an interview with Elle:
It was messy as f*ck. It wasn’t beautiful, and that was really fun to do. I think Ryan [Condal, the showrunner] said we weren’t learning any more about the characters, which I disagree with slightly, but it’s okay. It’s his show.
Overall, the 30-year-old seems happy with how intimacy is portrayed in the show. She initially expected more of such scenes, but is glad those included focus on her character’s pleasure and serve the story.
