Ryan Gosling, who is currently making headlines for his role as Ken in the Barbie movie, had an eventful experience in first grade, which didn’t end well. Since childhood, Gosling had a passion for cinema and stories. His fascination with the movie First Blood, in which Sylvester Stallone portrayed the role of Rambo. The movie ignited a mischievous desire in the mind of the young actor. And got him in big trouble. A memorable first grade for many of his classmates but certainly for his parents and teachers.

At six years old, Ryan Gosling filled up his Fisher-Price Houdini Kit with steak knives and brought them all to school. During recess, he playfully tried to imitate Rambo and threw knives at all his classmates. This was troubling, and he got an immediate suspension for it.

With the incident at school, his parents were shocked and startled. They were called to the school and demanded an explanation from their son. Upon receiving an “I thought I was Rambo” from their six-year-old, they decided on restricting his exposure to violent movies after understanding the impact it was having on their son’s behavior.

Gosling has admitted that after watching action movies, like Rocky and First Blood, he believed he was quite capable of performing heroic feats. This was a dangerous thought for a first-grader. But through supervision and the right guidance, Gosling channeled all his energy into dance and theater. The rest is history. The Notebook actor reflected on his childhood in an interview and said:

“From as early as two years old, I was sneaking out the house never wearing my clothes, breaking things, putting the cat in the dryer and setting the house on fire.”

Post the suspension, he was homeschooled for a year by his mother, and he has said that the experience gave him “a sense of autonomy that I’ve never really lost”.

Didn’t have friends til his early teens and was home-schooled on and off. When he first landed his role in a television show, he finally decided to drop out and focus on acting. Even after the suspension and his choice not to continue his education, Gosling’s childhood didn’t impact his career. He transitioned from television to films, and he followed his passion for acting.

He has become a celebrated actor who captivated the audience worldwide. His journey from being the first grader who got suspended to becoming a renowned movie star with several accolades exemplifies the unpredictable paths that life could take. It also shows that unexpected childhood experiences could shape an individual’s future unimaginably.
