“I want to literally, like, shoot my toe off”: Jennifer Lopez Regrets Refusing Adrian Lyne’s $119M Erotic Thriller as Director Returned to Hollywood With Ben Affleck 20 Years Later
Jennifer Lopez has a glorious career in the entertainment industry which kicked off after she was widely acclaimed for portraying legendary singer, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in 1997 Selena. Since then, she has continued to work on some of the major projects that helped her in establishing herself as the highest-paid Hispanic actress in Hollywood.
While her glamourous career screams perfection in every step, it doesn’t mean that she has no regrets. Back in 2020, she opened up about leaving an opportunity back in the early 2000s which eventually left her in regret.
Jennifer Lopez Regretted Rejecting to Work in Unfaithful!
The 53-year-old actress, Jennifer Lopez in a 2020 interview with Variety revealed about turning down the offer to work with the director Adrian Lyne in the film, Unfaithful. While she was confident about her choice back then, she eventually regretted when the actress, Diane Lane, who eventually played the role of Constance “Connie” Sumner got nominated for Oscars for her role.
The former shared that she turned down the opportunity as the script “wasn’t all the way there” when she was offered the female lead role opposite Richard Gere. She regretted her choice as she stated,
“I should have known that Adrian Lyne was going to kill it, but I didn’t.”
She continued,
“Diane Lane was so perfect for it, and it was obviously meant to be her, but when I think about that… I want to literally, like, shoot my toe off. I do.”
While she turned down the erotic thriller film, she starred in two films, one being Michael Apted’s thriller Enough and the other being Wayne Wang’s hit film, Maid in Manhattan.

While The Unfaithful was the last project of the director that captivated the fans’ interest, he returned to Hollywood with Lopez’s ex, Ben Affleck, and Ana de Armas in Deep Water. The 2022 erotic thriller film was quite an anticipated project due to the star-studded cast and the helmer’s return to the industry after working on his 2002 film. However, it was unable to perform well as it received negative critics.
Even the Gone Girl star’s ex addressed the film’s failure by putting a subtle shade on the director stating,
“I learned that I cannot compromise on a director,” she told the outlet. “Because at the end of the day, that is what the movie is going to be, and that’s what the experience is going to be, and that’s the person that you have to trust the most.”
While Affleck’s 2022 film was a flop among the netizens, he has announced collaborating with his wife on Unstoppable which will be their first film as a couple.
