The Weeknd is now the Starboy for the world but there was a time when the singer had a few insecurities. The Call Out My Name singer is not just famous for his incredible songs but he has also made waves for his charm. A charm that got hot women in the industry like Selena Gomez, Angelina Jolie, and Bella Hadid to fall for him.
In a recent interview, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye on stage known as The Weeknd opened up about his insecurities regarding his hair.
The Weeknd said his hair became an Obstacle for him
Talking about his hair The Weeknd explained at one point in his life, his hairs were a part of his identity. People knew him because of his hair. The Reminder singer said he decided to cut them down when he realized that people are identifying more with his hair than his work in the music industry.
While talking about how he decided to chop his hair. The Weeknd said many people asked him not to cut his hair as no one had hair like him. When people stopped him he got many more reasons to get rid of the hair. The 33-year-old singer said,
“In the beginning of my career, I didn’t show myself at all. I didn’t want to be famous. For the first two years, no one knew what I looked like. The hair became an obstacle for me. I went from ‘No one knows who I am’ to ‘Nobody has that hair except The Weeknd.”
He further said,
“I was always trying to hide it. When I finally decided to cut it, everybody said, ‘Don’t do it!’ That gave me more reasons to do it. I was so identified with that hair that I had to cut it. I didn’t want to be known for just this or just that.”
In the initial days of his career, the Starboy singer was no doubt remembered more because of his hair. Later, the singer came out with new hair and new songs and made everyone applaud him.
The Weeknd wants to get rid of his stage name
Selena Gomez’s ex-boyfriend and Angelina Jolie’s rumored ex-lover also spoke about his stage name The Weeknd. The Die For You singer expressed his desire to not continue with his stage name and go ahead with his real name for the upcoming projects. The Weeknd said during the interview,
“I’m going through a cathartic path right now. It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter.”
He further added,
“I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
So the singer wants his fans to call out his name and not just remember him by his stage name The Weeknd. The singer also gave a hint to his fans that his upcoming album will reportedly be his last project as The Weeknd.
