American actor Matthew McConaughey recently appeared on the Conversation: About the Men podcast and talked about how he was molested and blackmailed into having s*x when he was a teenager. The actor further revealed that he did not let that incident ruin any of his future relationships. The actor first talked about the alleged incidents in his 2020 memoir, Greenlights. He got married to Brazilian model Camila Alves in 2012 and has left his traumatic experiences in the past. The actor has appeared in famous movies like Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street, and more.
Matthew McConaughey explained how he didn’t let his trauma affect him
Actor Matthew McConaughey talked about his traumatic experiences with Amanda de Cadenet on the Conversation: About the Men podcast. He explained that he did not let those incidents affect his future relationships,
“I’m not gonna be afraid of relationships because my first experience was blackmail. Uh uh. That’s an aberration and I’m not gonna let it beat me … I’m not gonna let that beat my sense of trust in people and say, ’No, I can have a healthy relationship.’ Non-negotiable. No.”
He first mentioned the disturbing incidents in his 2020 memoir, Greenlights.

The actor was blackmailed into having s*x when he was 15
In his memoir, he revealed that he was blackmailed into having s*x when he was just 15 and he was molested when he was 18. He wrote,
“I was blackmailed into having s*x for the first time when I was 15. [I was] molested by a man when I was eighteen while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.”
On the podcast, he explained how it didn’t stop him,
“I didn’t connect ’em. Am I gonna carry that? I chose, non-negotiably, I’m not going to carry that, bring that baggage into the life I’m going to lead, and how I treat people and how I trust people, and how I look at circumstances and the risk I may take.”
The actor married Brazilian model Camila Alves in 2012 and they share three kids.

Matthew McConaughey explained how he dealt with it
Matthew McConaughey further explained how receiving support from his peers helped him in healing and eventually moving on from the incident. On the podcast he said,
“I’ve had very good friends. I’ve had good mentors. I’ve had elder men, elder women, married couples, that pulled it off — from celebrating 50-year anniversaries, that have taken the time to sit with me.“
McConaughey last appeared in the 2019 action comedy film The Gentleman by Guy Ritchie.
