Benedict Cumberbatch Had to Lose Tons of Weight After Filming for Doctor Strange
The acclaimed actor Benedict Cumberbatch well known for his roles as Doctor Strange in the MCU had once shed kilos of weight just to fit into the character of Sherlock. Being among the A-listed stars in Hollywood, Cumberbatch has a pretty busy schedule which sometimes does not even give him a chance to prepare for new projects.
Talking about this to the Digital Spy Cumberbatch said there was a time when he had no break between wrapping up Doctor Strange and returning to Sherlock. “I finished Doctor Strange and, that night, I got on a plane,” he revealed. “The next morning, I woke up and was driven to Cardiff.”
This busy schedule left Cumberbatch with no option but to lose his weight fast. On one hand, the character of Doctor Strange required Cumberbatch to be more muscular and bigger, while Sherlock needed a leaner figure. With no time in between the actor had to lose weight faster. Talking about this Cumberbatch said “I was not in Sherlock shape; I was in Doctor Strange shape so I was quite big! I was chunky – in a healthy way, an athletic way – and he’s not necessarily, Sherlock.”
This revelation by the actor sheds light on his dedication to his craft and also provides a glimpse into the busy and difficult life of the actors.
Benedict Cumberbatch is All Set to Return As Henry Sugar
Benedict Cumberbatch will now be seen as Henry Sugar in his upcoming movie The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. This will be Cumberbatch’s first movie with Wes Anderson. As Henry Sugar, Cumberbatch plays the role of a greedy child of a wealthy father who learns the actual worth of his money after gaining a strange ability.
Not only this the movie is also said to be a short film as it will not be running for more than 37 minutes. As reported by Collider, talking about this the director of the movie Anderson said “Because it’s a 37-minute movie, it was the perfect place to do it because it’s not really a movie. You know they used to do these BBC things called ‘Play for Today’ directed by people like Steven Frears and John Schlesinger and Alan Clarke. They were one-hour programs or even less. I kind of envisioned something like that.”
While the confirmation for the movie came in January 2022, this short film was once said to debut at the Venice Flim Festival before making its release to the public on October 16, 2023. However, as per the recent reports the movie is set to premiere on Netflix on September 27, 2023.
