Tom Holland says he asks Benedict Cumberbatch for acting advice

Tom Holland who is most prominently known for his character portrayal as Peter Parker a.k.a., Spider-Man from Marvel Cinematic Universe was recently seen in The Crowded Room by Apple TV+. The show received mixed reviews but fans of the actor applauded his range and commitment towards the character.

At a recent event of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Holland while promoting the series shared a little secret about his Marvel co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland said,

“Benedict Cumberbatch is someone that I asked for advice a lot about acting. I went through a phase where I was really struggling to cry, in my personal life also. It was really affecting me on set because I would really just worry about crying scenes and worry and worry and worry.”

Holland continued to share that he was blown away by Cumberbatch’s breakdown scene in The Imitation Game, which inspired him as well. The English actor mentioned at the event,

“The technique that he told me was this kind of thing that he’s able to do with his diaphragm which is almost like laughing. He would do this thing where he would kind of stimulate laughing and he would breathe really really quickly and that would sort of, I guess bring the emotion to the surface and then he could just take it and ride the wave from there.”

Tom Holland said that he started doing the same and he loves crying scenes now as he feels confident and feels that it’s something he has in his wheelhouse. He added that he does not have to draw any past experiences to bring in the emotions.

Holland noted that he is very protective of Spider-Man and he feels very lucky that they were able to work on the franchise that got better with each movie. Earlier this year, Kevin Feige shared with EW that the fourth installment of Spider-Man was being written adding that they had ideas for that and the writers were just putting them out on paper.
