He gained notable prominence as part of the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Wahlberg made his acting debut in Renaissance Man, and it almost instantly solidified his fate as an actor in Hollywood. After that, he appeared in many films, such as Planet of the Apes, The Departed, The Fighter, Ted, the Transformers franchise, etc., and gained notoriety as an actor.

Mark Wahlberg recently appeared for an interview where he opened up about his upcoming movie with Tom Holland, Uncharted 2, and talked about how he had to work super hard to grow his mustache because he did not have the confidence to pull off a fake one.

Mark Wahlberg opens up about his struggle with growing a mustache for Uncharted

Mark Wahlberg is reprising his role as Victor Sullivan in the Tom Holland-starrer Uncharted 2. When the actor first appeared in the franchise, many criticized him for having a clean-shaven look as opposed to the gaming counterpart of his character. However, that look was apparently intended, as it was about Natan Drake’s early adventures. At the end of the first movie, Mark Wahlberg is seen donning a mustache in the post-credit scene.

While talking to The Direct in an exclusive interview, he opens up about the fate of his mustache in Uncharted 2

“I’ve heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody’s written a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.”

Mark Wahlberg also opens up, saying that during the 2020 production, he spent a lot of time growing that mustache.

“I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there’s a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs and prosthetics and makeup and all that stuff. I’ve successfully worn one prosthetic, but that was long ago…”

He concluded the interview by saying that if Uncharted 2 performs better than its predecessor, only then would he consider returning to his role again.

“When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I’d be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now.”

PlayStation-based live adaptations are doing exceptionally well at avoiding the video game curse in live-action adaptations. The video game curse is the predominating trend of a movie or TV show based on a video game not performing very well among the audience. Live-action adaptations of PlayStation games like The Last of Us and Gran Turismo have been smash hits. Although Uncharted had huge hype, it failed to live up to the expectations. So, it remains to see how Uncharted 2 performs at the box office.

Uncharted 2 cast: which actors are coming back?

So far, Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Nathan’s mentor and father figure, Victor Sullivan, are expected to come back for sure. Sophia Ali, who plays the role of the treasure hunter Chloe Frazer, is also expected to make a return since, in the Uncharted 2 game, she briefly played Nate’s love interest. It was expected that the romance would take place in the first movie, but Nate and Chole ended up as enemies since Nate tricked Chloe about the location of the treasure.

In the credits scene, the movie also teased the return of Nate’s brother, Sam. However, there has been no confirmation as to who will play the role. Uncharted second credit scene showed Pilou Asbæk as the new villain called Gage. He double-crosses Nate but Sully comes and saves the day so all is fine and dandy. It is possible that he might come back for more in Uncharted 2

The release date of Uncharted 2 has not been declared yet.
