“I was taking time off”: Matt Damon’s Wife Convinced Him to Leave Acting Until Christopher Nolan Cast Him in Oppenheimer
Matt Damon is a man with many talents. He is not only a superb actor but also an excellent screenwriter and producer. Damon has been part of various blockbuster films in the industry. The screenplay he wrote with Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting in 1997 even won the duo an Academy Award each. The movie got nine nominations at the Academy Awards, including a nomination for Best Actor for The Rainmaker star.
The 52-year-old actor has a fantastic filmography and a sizable fan base all around the world. Damon likes to stay busy with taking back-to-back projects. His upcoming film Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan has already created a buzz among fans. The Martian actor, in an interview, while promoting his film, revealed his wife almost convinced him to take a break from acting before getting cast in Oppenheimer.

Matt Damon was supposed to take a break from acting
Matt Damon is part of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic drama Oppenheimer. The actor plays General Leslie Groves in his historical drama-thriller. Damon had a busy schedule before accepting to work on Nolan’s film.
Over the last couple of years, the 52-year-old has been part of various films. From starring in Air, The Last Duel, and Stillwater to making a cameo in the films Thor: Love and Thunder and No Sudden Move, Damon has been busy. The Ford V Ferrari actor, in an interview, confessed he was considering taking a break from acting before getting a call from Nolan.
He revealed that he had even made a deal with his wife, telling her that unless Christopher Nolan offered him a job, he would take a hiatus from acting. The Air actor said,
“I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off. I had been in Interstellar, and then Chris put me on ice for a couple of movies, so I wasn’t in the rotation, but I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called.”
Damon was part of Nolan’s 2014 science fiction epic Interstellar. He further added how the filmmaker tends to keep his projects secret. The 52-year-old said,
“He just calls you out of the blue. And so, it was a moment in my household.”
Oppenheimer is the highly anticipated film of 2023, clashing with Barbie. The film starring Cillian Murphy in the lead has an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt.
Matt Damon plays General Leslie Groves in Oppenheimer
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is supposed to be one of the biggest summer blockbusters of 2023. The Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin served as the basis for the movie.
The film explores the complicated life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man regarded as the father of the atomic bomb. It stars Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt.
Murphy plays the titular character, J. Robert Oppenheimer. Matt Damon plays General Leslie Groves, who played a pivotal role in the Manhattan Project. Groves, a lieutenant general in the US Army, collaborated with Oppenheimer on the development of the lethal weapon and pushed the military aspect of the operation forward.
Oppenheimer is set to hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
