“I wasn’t ready”- Gwyneth Paltrow says Brad Pitt left her father devastated by breaking their engagement, admits Brad was too good for her
Gwyneth Paltrow’s late father was devastated when she split from Brad Pitt. The actress ended her engagement with Brad Pitt in 1997 after almost three years of dating and admits that her father treated her ex-fiance like his son, but she believes he was too good for her. As a good-looking guy, who steals many hearts, the actor has dated some of the most gorgeous Hollywood beauties, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Angelina Jolie. Though none of the relationships lasted in the end, he is still friends with most of his exes, with emphasis on most.
The former couple discussed how they almost got married and the actress also talked about how her father, Bruce Paltrow, had a soft corner for the Fight Club actor in his heart. Gwyneth Paltrow is currently married to Brad Falchuk and shares two kids with ex-husband Chris Martin, while Brad Pitt shares six kids with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
Brad Pitt Was ‘Too Good’ for Gwyneth Paltrow
The actress opened up about Brad Pitt, whom she started dating after co-starring with him in David Fincher’s 1995 thriller Seven. And said “I definitely fell in love with him,” she further added, “he was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt.” The 42-year-old beauty talked with Howard Stern onSiriusXM radio and shared:
”My father was devastated. I was such a kid, I was 22 when we met. It’s taken me until 40 to get my head out of my a**. You can’t make that decision when you’re 22 years old… I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me. I didn’t know what I was doing.”

After their split, the star went on to date Ben Affleck for three years until 2000, but later confessed she got swept up by his good looks. She also said that he was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend. Previously the actress also opened up that she was too young and not ready to get married, as she was 22 years old when they started dating, while Brad Pitt was more mature at 31.

Gwyneth Paltrow may have consciously ended her relationship with her ex-husband Chris Martin, but the actress knows she didn’t necessarily handle her other breakups so well. In an interview, the actress admits she messed up so many relationships including the one with Brad Pitt.
”I think that when you’re in your twenties, you can get swept up in [good looks]. When you’re a kid, you tend to be more shallow and you’re also immature, so you think that being with a good-looking person validates yourself in some kind of way. It’s not true.”
The former couple was so serious at the time that they seemingly had matching haircuts at one point. The actress told Sophia Amoruso in an episode of the Girlboss podcast that she ultimately blames herself for the ending of a good relationship. This isn’t the first time Gwyneth Paltrow has talked about making mistakes during her breakup with Brad Pitt. Back in 2015, she told Howard Stern that she was such a kid and she was just 22 when they met. According to Paltrow, she was immature for handling a serious relationship, which is why it didn’t last too long.
