Taylor Swift Wouldn’t “Marry Me Either”
In the lyrics of You’re Losing Me, Swift expresses herself as a “phoenix always rising from the ashes, mending all her gashes,” which strongly implies a discussion about life after a breakup. In the lyrics she drops a hint about her difficult breakup with Alwyn where she says
“I wouldn’t marry me either. A pathological people pleaser. Who only wanted you to see her.”
Elsewhere, the lyrics often delves into the fairytale future she hoped would materialise into but didn’t.
Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?” before admitting, “I’m getting tired even for a phoenix. Always risin’ from the ashes.”
“Stop, you’re losing me,” she repeats several times in the chorus, adding, “My heart won’t start anymore for you.”
“How can you say that you love someone you can’t tell is dyin’?” she asks. “How long could we be a sad song ’til we were too far gone to bring back to life?”
Earlier this year, Swift and Alwyn ended their relationship just before the commencement of Swift’s Eras Tour concert series. Since then, she has entered into a relationship with musician Matt Healy, who has been present at several of her shows and has even performed on stage.

Why Did Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Breakup?
According to a source who spoke to People in April following news of Taylor Swift‘s breakup with Alwyn, they stated, “The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.” It appears that they ultimately lacked a sufficient understanding of each other to sustain their connection. Despite being together for six years, Swift reflects on the difficult decision of letting go of everything she has “built” in the pre-chorus of her song.
The same source informed People that Swift and Alwyn had experienced rough patches in the past but managed to mend their relationship. Therefore, the lyrics could allude to the uncertainty and tension surrounding the question of whether something is truly over.
Additionally, another source shared with ET that the couple’s differences proved too significant to overcome, making it challenging to end the relationship despite the time they had invested together. The source mentioned, “It was more of Taylor’s decision to break up, but both of them realized that they weren’t completely right for one another. They had been together for such a long time and were spending so much time together, but their personalities were just too different. Joe is more introverted, shy, and quiet.”
The source explained that friends initially believed they would take some time apart but eventually reconcile. However, it became clear that they were not the right match for each other.
