Like most other Hollywood actors, Goldblum also got his shot at playing an MCU character. He has played the role of the Grandmaster, the ageless Elder of the Universe, in quite a few Marvel projects. Despite his involvement in the universe, he seems to be rather unbothered as he had no idea about one of the biggest updates regarding the franchise.

Jeff Goldblum is no stranger to franchise films as he starred in Jurassic Park in 1993, and three years later, he appeared in the Will Smith-starrer Independence Day. Both of these movies are among the highest-grossing ones. So, there is no doubt that the actor has a filmography worth making even some of the best actors envious.

His first appearance as the Grandmaster came in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. That same year, he also played the role in Thor: Ragnarok. Both of these movies were immensely successful as they not only garnered praise but also were box office hits. He further reprised the role in the Disney+ Marvel series What If…?

Despite all of this, Goldblum seems to remain blissfully unaware of what has been happening in the MCU lately. Recently, Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz told the Annie Hall actor that Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man might be dead, but he has returned to the franchise as the villain Doctor Doom. To this, the actor reacted by saying, “Excellent news.” He further said that he had heard something about it.

I think I’d vaguely heard the… Yes, yes, I’d heard whispers on my peripheral channels.

Then, he got engrossed in another train of thought. He expressed his jealousy over the fact that Doctor Doom’s full name is Victor von Doom, stating that if he had that name, he would have achieved much more success. Fans need not be too surprised if he does end up adding ‘von’ to his name.

Jeff Goldblum on the Part of His Cultural Upbringing He Chose Not to Embrace

Goldblum might be Hollywood royalty now, but he had his own struggles growing up just like anyone else in this world. He has grown to let go of parts of the culture that he grew up in. In a recent interview with KRCU Public Radio, he opened up about it.

I grew up in Pittsburgh. It can be tough — just the culture of bullying, and rough stuff, and coarseness, and ignorance of one kind or another. I certainly can say that I realized even back then that I longed for something finer than the coarse world of whoever is toughest wins and whoever’s got the biggest muscle wins. I didn’t want to take that.

Bullying is often seen as a means of asserting dominance. However, suppressing the weak and innocent is never a sign of strength, and he seemed to understand this. Although these parts might have been ugly, they also gave him the hunger for something that partly led him to pursue acting as a profession. All in all, it has been a win-win for the actor as well as the fans.
