“If I’m lucky I’ll never will”: Robert De Niro’s Breakout Film Writer’s Wish Comes True as Uber Debunks ‘Taxi Driver’ Parody for Commercial
In a recent turn of events, rumors have been around that Robert De Niro’s all-time classic movie Taxi Driver is all set to be debunked by Uber company for one of their advertising campaigns. While De Niro has time and again talked about reprising his role from Taxi Drive, the writer of the film Paul Schrader was seen rather upset with the idea.

Paul Schrader Does Not Want to See Robert De Niro Reprising His Role from Taxi Driver
Rumors have been around that De Niro will be reprising his role from the 1976 iconic drama Taxi Drive for a commercial ad for Uber which will be running in the UK. Taxi Drive was indeed one of the most unique movies done by De Niro in his career.
However, the writer of the movie Paul Schrader was seen rather unhappy with the news. Taking on to his Facebook account Schrader wrote “Ouch. Why Bob would do this is beyond my reckoning. But I haven’t seen it. If I’m lucky I never will.”
Released back in 1976 the movie was a neo-noir psychological thriller that scored 4 Oscars nominations which included Best Picture and Best Actor for De Niro.
Uber and Robert De Niro Deny All Rumors of Reprising the Taxi Driver
De Niro and Uber have taken it upon themselves to squash all rumors regarding reprising the actor’s role of Travis Bickle. One of De Niro’s representatives has denied the reports that the Oscar winner will reprise his role from Taxi Drive for an Uber ad campaign.
Even Uber released a statement saying that they are going to shoot a commercial starring De Niro but they have no plans of adopting the Taxi Drive theme. As reported by Variety Uber said in its statement “We are filming with Robert De Niro in London for a new Uber UK campaign, which will launch later in the year.”
Not only this De Niro’s spokesman Stan Rosenfield also added that the actor is not reviving Bickle for the ad, nor is he using any of the character’s famous lines.
