The second installment of Captain Marvel is set to release in 2023. The Marvels will directly refer to the latest cameo of Brie Larson in Disney+’s Ms. Marvel‘s Episode 6. There are still not a lot of details about the film out there, like any idea of the basic plot, but we do know that there are big names involved, both in the cast and the team behind the camera.

It is also well-established that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers will be featured leading a superheroine trio consisting of her, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, in continuation of the events of Ms. Marvel and WandaVision. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is also slated to return with Captain Marvel 2. Zawe Ashton is all set to make her MCU debut as the main antagonist of the film.

The Marvels is in Nia DaCosta’s hands, the director who is making her Marvel debut as well. Laura Karmpan is the movie’s composer and she has also previously worked on the musical score of What If…? streaming on Disney+.

Well, guess what? Laura Karmpan might not be the only one flaunting her musical prowess in the film, the protagonist might give us a little musical treat as well.

Twitter’s day out with The Marvels’ Musical rumors

Reliable sources on Twitter leaked the information about Brie Larson’s potential musical stint in The Marvels. And Twitter won’t be Twitter without people crying about the sheer terrible nature of both the idea and the possibility. Twitter went berserk with trolls typing away their grief.

A user claimed that Captain Marvel was already a disaster when the deliberate efforts to force in the vintage and punk musical nostalgia to give us a certain vibe failed utterly. It would be no different the second time around.

Marvel Fans aren’t having it this time

The eternal Marvel v DC argument is something straight out of a saga and new chapters keep added every now and then. In the latest chapter, Marvel fans are showing DC fans a mirror for their trolling of the rumors of The Marvels being a musical. The fact that Todd Philips’ Joker 2 is going to be a full-on musical as well, was jeered at. The trolls’ hypocrisy in calling out Ms. Marvel when Joker 2 being made as one was hailed, is something the Marvel fans aren’t tolerating anymore.

If one is going to hate on The Marvels, the least they can do is wait for its release. Simply hating on it for being a Musical doesn’t sound feasible.

The probable premise for Carol Danvers’ singing gig

Brie Larson
Brie Larson singing in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

The one fact that makes this rumor go wilder is the fact that Brie Larson was in fact, a pop star once. She had released a complete album in 2005, but it wasn’t really a hit – selling only a few thousand copies. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World also featured one song from Larson’s album in its soundtrack.

Captain Marvel also featured a brief singing moment between Carol Danvers and Maria Rambeau (played by Lashana Lynch) singing Lita Ford’s ‘Kiss Me Deadly’ during karaoke. This was just a couple-second shot, but it might be a hint as to what kind of music Brie Larson might perform in The Marvels.

Other than potential vintage music tracks, in the comics, Captain Marvel has already come across a world called Aldana, whose people converse in song and rhyme, in Captain Marvel (2014) #9 in 2014. The Marvels will most probably show Carol’s team exploring the cosmos and it won’t be surprising if they find themselves in this peculiar alien-musical verse.

The Marvels is set for a theatrical release on July 28, 2023.
