‘If somebody doesn’t have the goods, they’re insecure’: Jennifer Lopez Trolled Eternals Star Salma Hayek as Talentless, Said She Can Only Do ‘Sexy Bombshell’ Roles

Mexico-born Salma Hayek began her career in her homeland and established herself in Hollywood with movies like Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Wild Wild West (1999), and Dogma (1999). With a successful career in the entertainment industry, she is known as one of Hollywood’s most powerful and influential Latina actresses by various outlets.
Hayek was once targeted by actress Jennifer Lopez when the latter was starting her career. Lopez rose to prominence during the late 90s with her first leading film, the musical biopic Selena, which was released in 1997.
For the unversed, the musical drama film is a biopic on Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla Pérez. It follows the journey of the singer’s rise to fame till her tragic death at 23.
Having achieved a great jump in her career, Lopez for many years, had to look upon her past not because of anything positive but a 1998 interview with Movieline. The then-rising star threw shades on her fellow celebrities and declared herself “the best.”
She boasts about herself by stating, “If you have the goods, there’s nothing to be afraid of. If somebody doesn’t have the goods, they’re insecure. I don’t have that problem.”
Sharing her thoughts on Hayek, she stated, “We’re in two different realms. She’s a sexy bombshell and those are the kinds of roles she does. I do all kinds of different things.”
Lopez criticized the singer for performing in “sexy bombshell” roles while stating that she could do all kinds of roles.

Lopez also claimed that the Mexican actress wanted more attention which is why she claimed that she was offered a role in her hit film Selena.
Referencing her then-newly hit film, she stated, “It makes me laugh when she says she got offered Selena, which was an outright lie. If that’s what she does to get herself publicity, then that’s her thing. Columbia offered me the choice of Fools Rush In or Anaconda, but I chose the fun B-movie because the Fools script wasn’t strong enough.”
Lopez laughed off at Hayek’s offer to perform in Selena with the latter in a 2020 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen revealing that she did decline the starring role in the film.
“It was a little bit distasteful. They were already planning on making this movie,” the actress stated referencing the legendary singer who died just a few years before the movie’s release.
Not just Hayek, she disrespected many stars however a report by Yahoo claimed that she had apologized many times for commenting on her fellow celebrities.
