Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is one of the most talented actors in the industry who rose to fame with his appearance as the main antagonist Le Chiffre in James Bond’s 2006’s Casino Royale later appearing in Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky in 2008, A Royal Affair in 2012 along with Danish movie The Hunt in 2012 which was highly applauded at the Cannes Film Festival that year.

Mads Mikkelsen recently appeared as Jürgen Voller in Harrison Ford starrer Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The star who is known as the face of the resurgent Danish cinema was highly praised for his role in the movie which unfortunately received mixed reviews from the critics as well as the audience. Mads Mikkelsen mentions everything he does is a lie

Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen appeared at the Marrakesh Film Festival where in a candid conversation with Brut, he admitted that he is none of the characters he has played adding that he is a professional liar. Mikkelsen said,

“Well, I’m a professional liar. That’s my job. Everything I do is a lie. I’m none of the characters, and I haven’t invented the things I’m saying. I’m a big liar. But I am hopefully mostly so professionally.”

The celebrated actor noted further in the interview that as a kid he did not have any dreams of becoming an actor but wanted to do just sports. He further mentioned that whenever he’d spot someone doing something weird on the street he would find himself mimicking that individual just to know how it would feel like to be him.

Mads Mikkelsen added that watching Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver changed his perspective towards movies and plays a very significant part in his life as it acts like an inspiration for him to not make it easy for the moviegoers. He explained,

“There has to be something in there that is not black and white and since I try to do that in everything I do, it’s not always possible but we give it a shot.”

The actor was also asked during the interview about portraying the grey shade characters on-screen but humanizing them at some level to which he said that according to him a lot of actors are trying to do the same thing to get in the heads of their characters and sort of understand their mindset and humanize it. He calls this process as an interesting one.

Mads Mikkelsen shares why he wanted to be a part of Indiana Jones 

In an interview with Deadline, the Danish actor said that he grew up watching Indiana Jones just like everyone else in his generation, way before he started watching French movies and falling in love with this category. Mads Mikkelsen added,

“Indiana Jones was just a milestone in movie making when it comes to adventure films, one of those thoroughly charming films that stay with you forever and that was the first reason. The sentimental reasons; When I read it, and I realized that it was a goodbye to him and I was like, ‘Damn, I want to be a part of this. It’s a beautiful ending for this beloved character.”

The actor who has been a part of the James Bond franchise as well noted during the interview that James Bond is the crown jewel of English cinema history and it’s so obvious that people are going to have strong opinions of what the next Bond is going to look like. He added that it was fantastic to be a part of that movie.
