Actress Zoe Saldana is shocked with Disney delaying the release of the next three Avatar movies by a year. At this rate, the final installment of the Avatar franchise will now hit the theatres precisely 22 years after the release of the original blockbuster, which was released in 2009. The delay is highly attributed to the writer’s strike which means that the fans will have to be a bit more patient before they get to see the next Avatar film.
With respect to the delay producer Jon Landau wrote on Twitter, “Each ‘Avatar’ film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect,” “The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.”

Avatar media franchise was created by James Cameron and consists of science fiction films produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and the franchise also has video games, merchandise and theme park attractions. The franchise released its first film, Avatar in 2009 which became the highest grossing film of all-time. The second installment Avatar: Way Of Water was released on December 16, 2022.
The star cast of Avatar franchise includes, Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, and the other main characters to be a part of the franchise are, Kate Winslet, Michelle Rodriguez, Jack Champion and many more.
The upcoming films of the franchise are, Avatar 3 (2025), Avatar 4 (2029), and Avatar 5 (2031). Avatar franchise is one of the most expensive franchises undertaken and in terms of box-office performance till now both the films have performed exceptionally well and earned in billions.
Zoe Saldana reacts to AVATAR 5’s Delay
According to reports published by Variety the release date of Avatar 3 has been postponed to December 19, 2025. Avatar 3 was originally scheduled to be released in 2024 but is pushed to 2025 and the reason for the delay is the ongoing writer’s strike. But as per reports Disney has alternative intentions as well to allow the delay that is to buy more time for the post-production of the upcoming installments mainly for the enhancement of the film’s visual effects.
Because of the shift, Avatar 4 will now be released on December 21, 2029 and similarly Avatar 5 has been postponed to December 19, 2031. Well along with the Avatar fans and film fanatics, the franchise’s star cast and other members were also surprised to hear the massive delays. One of them was actress Zoe Saldana, who plays the role of Neytiri, the leading lady of Avatar sent out a hilarious reaction via a social media post in response to the delay in releases.
Saldana’s Instagram story read- “Great! I’m gonna be 53 when the last ‘Avatar’ comes out,” wrote Zoe Saldana, who also shared her still from the blockbuster film. “I was 27 when I shot the very first Avatar,”
While Zoe Saldana will cross her half-century mark with the final release of the installment, leading man Sam Worthington, will be 55, and not to forget director James Cameron is going to be 77.
