“I’m gonna die Halfway through this job”: Scarlett Johansson Detailed Her Painful Journey in ‘The Avengers’ and It Does Not Sound Fun
Scarlett Johansson is one of the perfect examples of beauty with brains in Hollywood. The official face of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow is the only female superhero who stands out in the crowd of male superheroes. The American actor has reprised the character of Black Widow in multiple Marvel projects over the years.
Scarlett Johansson was introduced to the MCU with the 2010 released Iron Man 2. During an interview with a reputed media outlet, the Lucy star spoke about her experience during the filming of Avengers.
Scarlett Johansson Talks About Her Experience While Filming The Avengers
During an interview with the reputed media outlet Success in 2012, Scarlett Johansson spoke about what all it takes to do a superhero movie. She mentioned giving up during the filming of Avengers as she felt she would not be able to survive it. She said-
“There’s pain involved in trying to make something great, whether that’s emotional pain or physical pain. Like in these superhero movies, it definitely hurts. It’s a lifestyle that’s not that fun. But the challenge is what makes me happy, not the end result. “
She further added-
“The challenge of, ‘How far can I push myself?’ Like doing the play—‘I don’t think I’m going to survive this.’ Or doing The Avengers—‘I’m gonna die halfway through this job.’ Being able to do something that feels impossible makes me feel incredibly happy.”
However, not many people know that Scarlett Johansson was not the initial choice for Black Widow. Director Jon Favreau wanted to cast Oppenheimer actor Emily Blunt as Black Widow. Due to the scheduling issue, Emily Blunt could never be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Kevin Feige Was Skeptical About The Inclusion Of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow In Avengers
During an interview with the media outlet BBC Radio 1 in 2021, Scarlett Johansson spoke about the president of Marvel Cinematic Universe Kevin Feige. She mentioned that the MCU head had trouble in delivering the news of including Black Widow’s character in Avengers Endgame. She stated-
“Kevin Feige called me, our boss at Marvel; I think he was nervous to tell me and sad about it, saying something along the lines of, ‘We all expected that there would have to be some big sacrifices,’”
Scarlett Johannson was not surprised by the news at all, instead, she was at peace with Black Widow’s journey. She said-
“It didn’t surprise me that that was a choice that Nat would have made. I knew that she had to feel at peace with that decision and that she was doing it out of love. It had to feel like she was resolved in that decision and that decision was hers. And that it wasn’t something that was happening to her because so much of her life has happened to her.”
Scarlett Johansson went on to immortalize the character of Black Widow and after multiple years it is next to impossible to imagine someone else in her shoes.
