Years back when Nicole Kidman was asked a question related to her ex-husband Tom Cruise, she felt highly disappointed and outraged at the interviewer for trying to connect her on-screen character’s tumultuous marriage to her with the Mission: Impossible star.

Nicole Kidman Was Annoyed After Encountering a Gender-Biased Question

Academy winner Nicole Kidman is not only lauded for her exceptional performances on-screen but also for her bold personality that lets the actress speak what she believes. One such incident when Kidman kept her thoughts clear during an interview was with The Guardian in which the Bombshell star called out a journalist for asking if she was comparing her character’s relationship to her marriage to Tom Cruise.

Kidman played the role of Lucille Ball in Being the Ricardos which depicts the personal and professional lives of Ball and Desi Arnaz. While talking about the tumultuous marriage of the characters in the movie, Nicole Kidman said:

“You can’t make people behave how you want them to, and sometimes you’re going to fall in love with someone who isn’t going to be the person you spend the rest of your life with. And I think that’s all very relatable. You may have kids with them. You may not, but they were very much in love.”

After hearing The Golden Compass star’s words, a female interviewer gently asked Kidman if she was shedding light on her and Tom Cruise’s marriage that wasn’t a happy ending. Shocked and annoyed Kidman unequivocally stated:

“And I would ask not to be pigeonholed that way, either, It feels to me almost sexist because I’m not sure anyone would say that to a man. And at some point, you go, ‘Give me my life. In its own right.'”

The Destroyer star felt the question was gender-biased and no one would dare to ask the same from A-lister Tom Cruise just because he’s a male actor. Kidman explains that she wasn’t implying this with her and ex-husband Cruise’s equation.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise rarely open up about their marriage journey in interviews, but the Aquaman star once reflected on her marriage with her ex-husband and addressed the media frenzy surrounding them when they were together. Kidman in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar openly spoke about the scrutiny she faced while the duo was married:

“I was young. I think I offered it up? maybe I’ve gotten a bit more trepidatious, but I’m always trying to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way.”

The Eyes Wide Shut actress added:

“I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shutdown approach, my husband, Keith [Urban], says that when he met me, he said, ‘How’s your heart?’ And I apparently responded, ‘Open.'”

Nicole Kidman is now happily married to Keith Urban with whom she celebrated her 56th birthday this year and shares two children with him. The Batman Forever star also shares children with Tom Cruise and supports all her four children equally.
