  • She does not plan to give up on Marvel just as the franchise does not plan to give up on her.

Marvel has certainly collected A-listers and some of the rising stars of Hollywood as gemstones that it has studded in its ever-expanding franchise. One such gemstone is Elizabeth Olsen, who comes from a family of performers and has starred in numerous blockbuster films over the years.

Olsen has portrayed the character of Wanda Maximoff, better known as Scarlet Witch, in 6 Marvel movies and 1 Disney+ Marvel show so far. Needless to say, all of them have been incredibly successful and have also catapulted the actress to international stardom. However, some might find it surprising that she does not label any of these projects her favorite. Instead, she gives that title to a movie that has not even been released yet.

Elizabeth Olsen began acting when she was just four, alongside her twin sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who are also known as the Olsen twins. She almost turned away from acting due to the intense media scrutiny that comes with the privilege of being from a famous family.

Eventually, Olsen found her way back to acting and made her big screen debut with the 2011 thriller film Martha Marcy May Marlene. She was praised for her performance and even earned nominations for a Critics’ Choice Movie Award and an Independent Spirit Award.

Four years later, the Kill Your Darlings actress landed the role of Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, she does not seem to consider any of her Marvel projects her favorite, as one might assume that she would, given the reputation she earned from the franchise.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she revealed that her favorite project she has worked on is a sci-fi thriller that is yet to be released.

My favourite project I’ve worked on is… every time I’m asked what my favourite project is, it’s one that we haven’t shared with the world yet! The Assessment is a film that we’re going to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and I’m quite proud of that film.

Olsen revealed that making The Assessment was quite challenging because it is an independent movie, so gathering a budget was tough, and so was getting a cast with whom they only had limited time. Luckily for her, she loves challenges.

Olsen’s favorite project might not be one that she did with Marvel, but that does not mean that she is quite done with the sprawling superhero franchise. If anything, she plans to continue working with the Kevin Feige-led media conglomerate.

In the same interview with Harper’s Bazaar, while speaking of her career curveball, Olsen admitted as much.

My career curveball was… Wandavision. No-one forced me to do that! I have made a choice to continue on with Marvel, and they’ve made a choice to continue on with me.

The Love & Death actress also admitted that she was scared of doing WandaVision at first because the project was meant for TV.

I was really scared about doing a Marvel project for TV, because these are otherworldly, larger-than-life characters that are seen in films, and I didn’t know if it would still work on a television at home.

Even so, she had faith in the show’s layout because it aligned with the kind of storytelling that is usually expected of TV shows. Her faith was in the right place, because the series became a huge hit with the fans in no time.

All 6 Marvel movies starring Elizabeth Olsen as well as WandaVision are available for streaming on Disney+.

The Assessment will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 8.
