Both Jerry Seinfeld and Ryan Gosling embarked on an expansive marketing push for their respective summer releases, Unfrosted and The Fall Guy. However, the former doesn’t look back fondly at his extensive campaigning for his directorial debut, and during his surprise appearance at the SNL, the Seinfeld star joked about doing too much press.

But apart from shedding light on his own marketing push for Unfrosted, the Seinfeld star also shared some words of wisdom for the Blade Runner 2049 actor.

Made to celebrate the stunt community in Hollywood, who often endanger their lives to craft the perfect action sequences, a grand marketing campaign was pushed for David Leitch’s The Fall Guy. At the foremost of this huge promotional push were Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, who were also involved in the expansive marketing campaign for their respective summer releases last year.

Appearing on the SNL segment, A Man Who Did Too Much Press, Jerry Seinfeld shared a negative outlook on his excessive press for Unfrosted, as he joked about the matter. While he can’t undo it now, he did share a warning for Gosling, who too is in a similar boat.

He said:

“That’s the thing. You don’t know until someone who cares about you shows you a video package and you see yourself with these people with these names… Hoda, Maraca, Chanel, Vlad… If you are struggling with press, you’re not alone. I’m talking to you Ryan Gosling.”

While Seinfeld’s directorial debut opened to mixed reviews on Friday, Gosling’s The Fall Guy is currently sitting in the high ’80s on the Tomatometer as of writing.

Steven Spielberg Personally Commended Ryan Gosling for The Fall Guy

Despite earning rave reviews from critics, which was followed by an extensive marketing push, The Fall Guys opened to less-than-stellar numbers, garnering $10.4 million on its opening day. However, to Ryan Gosling, nothing concerns him anymore, as he already experienced an all-time moment after Steven Spielberg told him in person that he “loved it”.

Gosling recalled (via Variety):

“I saw Steven Spielberg walking in my direction… I thought there’s no way he’s coming to talk to me… I thought I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to point to him, and he’s going to go, ‘Not you, behind you’… Finally I said, ‘Me?’ and he goes, ‘Yeah you.’ I go, ‘I’m sorry I didn’t think you were coming to talk to me.’  And I stood up and he gave me a hug and said, ‘I just saw Fall Guy and I loved it.’ As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t matter anymore what happens. Steven Spielberg liked it. That was an all time moment for me.”

Considering Gosling’s acclaimed buddy comedy The Nice Guys too failed to make it big at the box office, despite being a critical hit, fans will hope history doesn’t repeat itself with The Fall Guy.
