Tom Brady and Antonio Brown’s friendship has been a rollercoaster ride over the past few years. The two have had an on-and-off friendship that has made headlines multiple times. However, their latest fallout seemed to have taken a more permanent turn. The relationship between the two started as a professional one, with Brady reaching out to Brown to offer him guidance and mentorship. But soon it took a more personal turn.
Thus, Brown is hurting even more, and the fact that his friend could do such a thing to him baffles him. There were a lot of reasons that led the duo here, a culmination of many incidents. Therefore, the former NFL receiver went on the celebrated Million Dollaz Worth of Game to clear the air and reveal his side of the story that left the fans shocked.
How did Tom Brady and Antonio Brown become friends?
Tom Brady and Antonio Brown first met in 2018 when Brown was still playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The former NFL players’ friendship took a more personal turn when Brown signed with the New England Patriots in September 2019. The two became close, with Brady even inviting Brown to live with him and his family in their home. Brown was released from the Patriots in September 2019 following allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.
Despite the allegations, Brady remained supportive of Brown, and the two continued to stay in touch. When Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020, he lobbied for the team to sign Brown, who was a free agent at the time. Brown eventually signed with the Buccaneers in October 2020, reuniting with Brady. However, the reunion was short-lived, and their friendship started to unravel in January 2021.
Brown was suspended for three games after violating the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols. When he returned to the team, he started to feel like he wasn’t getting enough targets, and he reportedly began to create drama within the locker room. The situation reached a boiling point during a game against the New York Jets on December 26, 2021, after he reportedly walked off the field in the middle of the game. This was the suspected reason for their breakup after Brady stated that he was “disappointed” by Brown’s behavior. But turns out, it was quite the other way around now that Antonio Brown revealed his side of the story.
Why did Antonio Brown end his friendship with Tom Brady?
The above-disclosed incident was the final straw for Brady and the Buccaneers. In the aftermath of the incident, Brown took to social media to express his frustration with the situation. He accused the Buccaneers of forcing him to play injured and claimed that Brady only wanted him on the team to help the Buccaneers win a Super Bowl. Since then Brown does not miss any opportunity to throw shades at Brady. He has taken shots at his former friend on social media multiple times. However, Brady has not spoken publicly about the situation since his initial statement.
Very recently Brown went on a podcast again to discuss the situation. This time revealing a new perspective on the discord. He revealed Brady also had a big fallout with Brown’s agent, the heated argument led the former NFL quarterback to disrespect the agent. This led Brown to break off their friendship permanently. He felt very useless after the monumental victory of the 2021 Super Bowl since he was an older player. He said,
“Now when we get the ring in 2021, the next year I’m the last guy that signed,”
Brown then further stated,
“My agent, Ed Wasielewski, is getting called, cursed out by Tom Brady over why is he pushing back for the contract for scraps. Imagine if you heard that, the same guy that brought you in to win a ring, the same agent he told you to hook up with to get the deal, is not telling me, the guy’s calling him, saying, yo, cursing him out about scraps of a contract.”
He also accused Brady of him getting cut off the team in a different podcast previously. The athlete said,
“Brady is the general manager. He’s the guy my agent made the contract with, he’s the middle man and politician. I talked to Tom and he knows I’m not going to play. … To me, a friend is someone who’s got your back. Not everybody in sports is going to be your friend. Tom Brady’s my friend. Why? Because I’m a good football player. He needs me to play football.”
While their friendship has had its ups and downs, this was a result of several fallouts throughout the years. Brown is still heartbroken about the situation. Only time will tell if the two will ever reconcile, but for now, the rivalry continues.
