Iman Vellani Wants to Move on from Captain Marvel, Wants Another Female X-Men Hero as Mentor
Iman Vellani is the new face of Marvel for the time being, after the huge success of Ms Marvel. She is the first Muslim superhero in the Marvel universe and has gained nods of appreciation for portraying her titular character to perfection. There has been no announcement from Marvel about the renewal of Ms Marvel yet. However, one can expect the announcement to be made eventually, considering the popularity of the series and how Vellani’s character was received.
Iman Vellani is quite invested in Marvel comics herself and has in-depth knowledge about the Marvel universe. She was recently seen in The Marvels as Captain Marvel’s mentee. However, Vellani recently indicated in an interview that she would not mind moving on to another mentor for her character on-screen.
Iman Vellani wants this X-Men hero as her mentor
The finale of Ms Marvel revealed that Kamala Khan is a mutant, while the 90s X-Men animated series theme played in the background. While talking to ScreenRant in an exclusive interview for The Marvels, Iman Vellani opened up about how she wants more X-Men characters to work with Ms Marvel, and she specifically showed an interest in Emma Frost being Kamala Khan’s mentor. She said that even in the comic she is writing, she is focusing on Emma Frost as a mentor due to the chemistry she has with Ms Marvel as a character.
“Oh my God, there’s so many. I love Kamala’s relationships with older superheroes because it feels like she just has so many mom and dad superheroes. In the comic that I’m writing right now, I have her interacting with Emma Frost a lot, and I thought that was such a wonderful relationship because in Grant Morrison’s run, Emma is such a maternal figure and in a lot of ways, she really cares about the children, but she’s so cutthroat, and I love that she doesn’t sugarcoat anything for Kamala.”
She continued.
“She would be straight up, no BS telling her how things are, but then still stroke her hair and take her shopping and do all that. And I love to see her having a relationship like that. That would be cool.”

If Vellani’s vision materializes, Kamala Khan could be the key to bringing together the Young Avengers, Avengers, and X-Men. A mentorship from X-Men can give her a better perspective on her own powers, as she will be able to learn a lot more about her own mutation.
Iman Vellani reveals her big hope for Ms Marvel season 2
Iman Vellani recently shared in an exclusive interview with The Direct about who she wants as a villain in Ms Marvel season 2. She was quick to name Doc X as one of her top choices as a potential villain in the hypothetical season 2. She feels Doc X is someone who would really resonate with the Gen Z audience.
“Definitely Doc.X. I think that’s a great villain from the comics and can really resonate with the Gen Z audience. It would be so interesting—I don’t know, messing with kids’ psyche almost when you have this villain who only exists on your phone, and on your laptops, and on all your screens that we can’t avoid. I think it’d be really interesting position to put them all in to fight against something that you can’t even see, right? Yeah. Yeah, that’s one of my favorite comic storylines. So I would love to see that play out.”
In the comics, Doc X is a sentient computer virus that connects with Kamala through her video games. Later, Doc X uses all the information to blackmail Kamala into doing what it wants.
Ms Marvel is available to stream on Disney+.
