Quinn had low expectations when he was auditioning for Stranger Things. The South Londoner opens up Tudum over Zoom,
There are things that come into your inbox and you think—yeah, okay, let’s just get this off the desk then.
Quinn previously said on Netflix’s Geeked podcast that he had tried out for several American films before joining the sci-fi drama as Eddie Munson. Fortunately, he broke his frigid streak in November 2019 during his audition, starring in an early-cut version of Eddie’s epic Episode 1 takedown of high school hierarchies. Quinn says,
It’s a big old motherf**ker, that scene. I just put a bit of eyeliner on, I borrowed my mate’s jacket and I stuck some gum in my mouth thinking that might be kind of, I don’t know, cool?
For Quinn, the honor comes ahead of starring roles in A Quiet Place: Day One for director Michael Sarnoski and Gladiator 2 for Ridley Scott. A Quiet Place: Day One, hitting the screens on June 28, and Gladiator 2 is expected to air this fall/winter. Now that Quinn has two major tent poles on the horizon in 2024, he’s admittedly going to be a breakthrough actor.
In a conversation with CinemaCon, managing director Mitch Neuhauser said that Quinn literally turned heads in Stranger Things. Director Neuhauser praised him to such an extent that he believed Quinn deserved the 2024 Breakthrough Performer of the Year award. Neuhauser then reported a news moment that dropped in February when Marvel Studios announced that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Quinn were to take up the roles of the new superheroes in The Fantastic Four.
As for the other cast members, they’ve embarked on several other successful projects. Millie Bobby Brown starred in Enola Holmes and took up the lead character in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Talking about Finn Wolfhard, he appeared in the animated movie The Addams Family and It film series. David Harbour joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whereas Winona Ryder has now featured in Destination Wedding. Noah Schnapp recently started his entrepreneurial journey with a snack brand, TBH.
Quiet on set, but loud success: Quinn teases uncertain future amidst rising fame
During an interview with Access Hollywood, Quinn frequently said that he “didn’t know,” making sure that viewers were aware of his status regarding a possible return to the show. The actor then said,
He [Eddie] feels kind of gone. I’d say it’s pretty hard for them to bring him back, but I don’t know.
With his growing popularity and uncertainty surrounding his future on Stranger Things, fans are eager to know when they’ll see Quinn on screen again. Back in April 2022, it was announced that Quinn would be forming part of the future UK indie feature, Hoard, where he’ll star alongside actresses Saura Lightfoot Leon, Hayley Squires, and Deba Hekmat. However, not much is known about the project as of now.
