“Inspired is a strong word”: Anne Hathaway Film Controversy Surrounding Harry Styles Was Put To Rest Long Before Mass Mutiny By Fans
The Entertainment world, without controversies and rumors, would be less intriguing and might even fail to gain public attention. However, it can also cause a huge uprising among fans, resulting in disappointment and rage. To make sure Anne Hathaway’s upcoming film doesn’t witness this phase, a controversy surrounding Harry Styles was terminated years ago.
The first trailer for Anne Hathaway’s The Idea of You recently came out, featuring the acclaimed actress as a 40-year-old single mother searching for love. Based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film focuses on the relationship between Hathaway’s Solène and her 24-year-old lover played by Nicholas Galitzine.
However, there’s more to this film, as it was claimed that Lee’s book drew inspiration from Harry Styles, who’s also known for dating older women. This would have caused trouble among fans, if Lee had not put the controversy to rest, explaining that her book isn’t inspired by the former One Direction member.

Not every controversy surrounding films brings only positive attention. Some can cause extreme trouble, causing fans to call out the film, even if it includes some of their favorite stars. Similarly, it was claimed that Robinne Lee’s novel was inspired by former One Direction member Harry Styles. The book revolves around a 40-year-old single mother, getting out and finding love in a 24-year-old popular and fan-favorite band member.
Astonishingly, Harry Styles has often dated women in their 40s as age doesn’t bother him. Following this, there were controversies that the book was inspired by the singer, which could have severely affected Anne Hathaway‘s upcoming film. However, the author talked about the rumors in an interview with Vogue, and clarified that inspired was a big word to compare her book, and said:
“This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles… It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself… Inspired is a strong word.”
Since the focus is on Solène approaching her 40s, the male character wasn’t modeled on Styles. However, she also mentioned that “he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted”, explaining that the events in her novel, strangely mirrored Styles’ love life. One of the scenes in her book hints at the time when the paparazzi captured Kendall Jenner and the singer in a yacht.

The first trailer for The Idea of You is out, and it perfectly depicts the steamy relationship between Hathaway’s Solène and Galitzine’s young Hayes, the frontman of the popular band August Moon. Despite the media attention and societal issues, the singer continued his romance with the mother of a 16-year-old girl.

The film will premiere on May 1, 2024, on Prime Video. Apart from the Oscar-winning actress, the star-studded cast includes Reid Scott, Annie Mumola, Ella Rubin, and other talented stars from the industry. The director’s chair has been helmed by Michael Showalter with a script penned by Jennifer Westfeldt.
