Invincible has evolved a lot since the airing of its first episode in March 2021. For the first two seasons, the show followed Mark Grayson’s story from discovering his powers, the dark truth about his father, and fighting multiversal criminals like Angstrom Levy.

The show’s success led to its official renewal for seasons 2 and 3. Season 2 was further divided into two halves, released in November 2023 and March-April 2024. However, at Collider’s Inside Hollywood panel at CCXP, Robert Kirkman revealed some new updates about the show’s future.

The way Simon and I have mapped out, where we would kinda follow the comic and where the breaks would be, roughly eight seasons. Could be seven, could be ten.

Such extensive planning is justified with the source material in mind. The comic series was released between 2003 and 2018 and includes 144 issues filled with several story arcs and characters’ developments. The show has already shown its capability to translate these stories into TV format while making some vital changes, of course.

The new third season promises more intensity. Major arcs involving Mark and Cecil, as well as the Viltrumite invasion threat, have in fact been hinted at in the trailer

Prime Video has backed the series well, as it has been recently renewed for a fourth and fifth season (as per ComicBook). Along with this, Kirkman’s comments suggest that fans can look forward to Mark Grayson growing from being an inexperienced hero to a seasoned protector of Earth.

What can be expected from Invincible season 3

The third season of Invincible is about to bring some of the most important stories from comics to the screen. One of them will be the character Oliver, who is actually Mark’s half-brother with Thraxan blood, because of which he grows at a much faster rate than any normal child. Viewers might see him start his superhero training with Mark as Kid Omni-Man.

There is another storyline based on Allen the Alien and Omni-Man’s release from the Viltrumite captivity. After Allen and Nolan escape, it can open the door for a massive alliance against the Viltrumite Empire, which could be a family reunion for Mark and Oliver against a common enemy.

The new season will also bring Mark’s blue suit. This change in costume symbolized a darker turn for Mark, although comic book fans will remember that this phase does not last forever. A new suit will show significant character development.

With what happened with Angstrom Levy in season 2, fans are expecting the series to turn to the Invincible War storyline. This comic arc features evil versions of Invincible from the multiverse, which promise grand action if followed.

Moreover, the relationship between Mark and Cecil will also be tested, particularly regarding the use of DA Sinclair’s ReAnimen technology. This conflict teased in the season 3 trailer hints at a more philosophical battle between the two characters and their ways to protect Earth.

Invincible season 3 will premiere on February 6 on Prime Video.
