Seems like it is the end of Brie Larson’s era after The Marvels has been crawling to meet even its budget and has finally met the end by only making $210 million globally over a budget of $220 million including an extra $100 million on marketing. This would be the lowest-grossing movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite having a star-studded cast including Marvel’s most like characters.

Brie Larson Failed To Impress Fans Through The Marvels

Seems like the superhero enthusiasts haven’t been excited lately after witnessing Brie Larson‘s The Marvels starring other two actors Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Larson’s movie received criticism over failing to impress fans with its comedy after the director Nia DaCosta revealed she wanted to make The Marvels a fun movie.

The movie is arriving at its end by only making $210 million globally which will result in a notable loss of $110 million over the budget of $220 million including an extra $100 million on marketing (via Hollywood Handle). The Marvels received mixed reviews from fans upon its release and many criticised Larson’s character for lacking to generate excitement among the viewers.

The box office collection is a huge disappointment for Marvel as fans’ excitement was enough when The Marvels were only on posters. Even the poster credit scene failed to earn attention which was another much-anticipated part of Larson’ failed project.

Now that The Marvels has been labeled as the lowest-grossing MCU movie, Disney CEO Bob Iger has come forward to shed light on its failure and reveal what went wrong with the project which resulted in a huge and unexpected loss. According to Deadline, Iger said:

“The Marvels was shot during Covid. There wasn’t as much supervision on the set, so to speak, where we have executives [that are] really looking over what’s being done day after day after day.”

While talking about whether the studies will ever achieve the desired box office collection, the CEO added:

“And I’m not sure another studio will ever achieve some of the numbers that we achieved. I mean, we got to the point where if a film didn’t do a billion dollars in the global box office, we were disappointed…That’s an unbelievably high standard and I think we have to get more realistic.”

Bob Iger also mentioned the challenges that occurred due to the shift in audience in the home streaming services which is another reason claimed by the CEO over The Marvels failure.
