“It belongs in a dumpster fire”: Donald Trump Rages Against Sebastian Stan’s ‘The Apprentice’ For “pure malicious defamation” Amid its Various Controversial Scenes
Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan, who is known for playing The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is one of the most talented actors in the industry. His selections of projects are not only dubbed unique but are always appreciated by fans and critics. He will be portraying former US President Donald Trump in an upcoming movie, The Apprentice.
Directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi from a screenplay by Gabriel Sherman, the movie follows the former President’s career as a real estate businessman in the 1970s and 1980s. It recently premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where the Sebastian Stan-starrer earned an eight-minute standing ovation. Still, Donald Trump is doing everything to block the release.
Donald Trump’s team sends a cease-and-desist letter to Sebastian Stan’s The Apprentice
Marvel actor Sebastian Stan stunned everyone when his first look as Donald Trump for the upcoming movie The Apprentice went viral on the Internet. The actor, who is known as someone who immerses himself in the roles he is playing on screen, looked very much like Donald Trump from the 1970s and 1980s.
The movie is going to focus on Trump’s relationship with McCarthy-ite lawyer and fixer Roy Cohn, played by Succession star Jeremy Strong. The movie also features Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, Trump’s first wife. According to Variety, the title of the movie The Apprentice is a nod to the NBC series that helped revitalize the former president’s career and public image after he went through a series of setbacks.
Ali Abbasi was thrilled to witness the reaction of the audience at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where the movie premiered for the first time. He said,
There is no nice metaphorical way to deal with fascism. It’s time to make movies relevant. It’s time to make movies political again.
However, Donald Trump does not feel the same way for obvious reasons, and reports have suggested that the former president’s team has sent The Apprentice’s team a cease-and-desist letter to block the release of the movie. Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communication director, said in a statement to Variety;
This film is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store; it belongs in a dumpster fire.
One of the most controversial scenes in the movie is when Trump’s character s**ually assaults his wife after she criticizes his looks. Ivana Trump, who passed away in 2022, had accused him of r**e in her divorce deposition, though she disavowed the claim later.
Tump’s representative stated that the team plans on filing a lawsuit to address the false assertions made in the movie by the pretend filmmakers.
Ali Abbasi addresses Donald Trump’s lawsuit
At the movie conference held at the Cannes Film Festival, director Ali Abbasi stated via The Guardian,
I don’t think it is a movie he would dislike. I don’t necessarily think he would like it, but I think he’d be surprised. So I’m happy to meet him, have a screening, and then we can discuss it afterward.
The director later spoke to the press and appeared unfazed by the threat of legal action, stating that Donald Trump’s team should watch the movie before they start suing them. Abbasi suggested that all of this is just a part of Trump’s playbook, pointing out that everyone always talks about him suing a lot of people, but no one talks about the success rate.
Some of the fans reacted to Trump’s action to block the release by stating, ‘How dare they talk about the bad things that I did, while another user mentioned, ‘Damn, during the election year.’ Someone suggested that the title should be ‘Why I Need Immunity’.

He can’t sue for something that was made public — as his divorce trial from Ivana cited all these events. It will be dismissed.

Oh damn – I'm definitely going to want to see this now.

A user pointed out that Trump can’t sue for something that was made public including his divorce trial in which Ivana cited all these events. Fans seemed to be excited and looking forward to watching the movie. The Apprentice does not have a U.S. distributor yet, although it was sold to StudioCanal for the U.K. and Ireland, where it will be released later this year. The movie is looking for a domestic distribution deal and is one of the best projects available.
