Iman Vellani says she could not control the faith of The Marvels
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, actress Iman Vellani, popularly known as Kamala Khan in the MCU, was asked about the disappointing opening weekend and the run of her latest movie at the box office in which she said that she could not control the faith of the movie. She said,
“I don’t want to focus on something that’s not even in my control, because what’s the point? That’s for Bob Iger.”
She continued,
“I’m happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film. It’s genuinely a good time watching this movie, and that’s all we can ask for with these films. It has superheroes, it takes place in space, it’s not that deep and it’s about teamwork and sisterhood. It’s a fun movie, and I’m just so happy that I can share it with people.”
The young actress recalled that she had experienced the negative sides of fandom even before she joined the MCU and explained,
“I had a lot of experience in high school alone when I would share my excitement with someone, and then they’d immediately shut me down for being so excited. I would hate to see that within the fan community as well, because it does feel awful.”
Iman Vellani said if people are excited about something, other people should let them be excited about it and if they have constructive criticism, they should speak but never be the wet blanket on someone else’s excitement.
Iman Vellani praises Nia DaCosta and says she cares about the characters
During her interview with CBR, the young actress was asked about having Nia DaCosta as the captain of their ship, to which she said,
“She is amazing, to put it in one word. She really cares about the characters. She’s also a nerd, and as intimidated as I was working with her from the start, that dissipated quickly because she loves Ms. Marvel and comic books. She absolutely set the example for all of us. These movies are not easy to make at all, and there are so many teeny, tiny things to pay attention to, a million moving pieces, all while making sure everyone on set is on the same page and comfortable.”
Despite a disappointing opening weekend for the movie, the actress praised her team as she went on to describe that DaCosta does the hardest job effortlessly and the vibe on their set was chill.
She also said during the interview that she would love to do Season 2 of Ms. Marvel added that Kamala and her family have so much to offer and she would like to explore that. Vellani mentioned lastly that she would just like to explore her character more because she has so much potential.
The Marvels is playing in the theatres.
