One of the most talked about movies in recent times after Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine is Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar starrer It Ends With Us. Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, the movie became one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2024 since its announcement.

Where the readers were excited to watch the live-action adaptation of their favorite novel, despite not being on board with the cast, were highly disappointed with the movie upon its release. Readers criticized the actress for being ‘tone-deaf’ and displaying a lighthearted humorous attitude towards a sensitive topic like domestic violence and abuse that bases the movie. However, actor Brandon Sklenar, while promoting the movie, had been a bigger disappointment for the fans, and it reminded them of Robert Pattinson when he played Edward Cullen.

It Ends With Us star Brandon Sklenar shares one thing in common with Twilight actor Robert Pattinson

Popularly known for his role as Spencer Dutton from 1923, actor Brandon Sklenar played Atlas Corrigan in Justin Baldoni’s recently released It Ends With Us. The movie follows the story of Lily Bloom, played by Blake Lively, who moves to Boston and opens a flower shop. She gets involved in a complicated relationship with neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, played by Baldoni himself.

Their relationship takes an abusive turn over time, which brings back the trauma of watching her mother get abused by her father. She finally manages to take a stand for herself breaking the generational pattern of accepting abuse. Lily wishes to have a better life for herself and her unborn daughter.

Ardent readers understand the seriousness of the theme that the book is based on, but they fail to understand why the actress went ahead to display her flowery outfits and humor everywhere while promoting the movie. On the other hand, fans noticed that Brandon Sklenar, whose character is very significant in the movie, was never attentive or interested enough to even talk about the movie. Fans mentioned that the actor did not seem as ‘desperate’ as the other cast members to promote the movie.

An X user shared a clip of the actor from his appearance on What Watch Happens Live on Andy Cohen, where the actor seemed disinterested during the entire interview. The user wrote,

Brandon Sklenar on Andy Cohen; it’s giving Robert Pattinson with Twilight Press Tour. Someone come to help this man out.

There was another video of Sklenar and Lively from an interview where the interviewer asked them how would they address a fan who has watched the movie and come up to them to talk about it or something related to domestic violence. Lively’s response to the question was not appreciated by the fans at all and was dubbed as ‘ugly’, but they pointed out how uncomfortable the actor looked. Instant comparisons were made to Pattinson.

It’s no secret that Robert Pattinson did not like a minute of his presence on his famous Twilight movie press tour. The actor revealed in an interview with Sunday Times Culture Magazine  (via Yahoo) that the only way he got away with the press tour was ‘being wasted’ as he did not enjoy any of it. The actor, in his conversation with E! (via Coming Soon) at the time, mentioned,

Some things about Edward are so specific, I was just convinced, like ‘This woman is mad.  She’s completely mad, and she’s in love with her fictional creation’. And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing.

Upon his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the actor revealed that his agents told him that he needed to cheer up while filming on set, adding that he was too miserable as he focused on making his character a truly gloomy emo. Clearly, he did not enjoy being Edward Cullen, and it shows in his interview, but why Sklenar looks miserable is still a mystery.

Brandon Sklenar comes to defend Blake Lively amid the It Ends With Us drama

The actor’s casting as Atlas Corrigan initially was not welcomed by the readers but was still appreciated for playing one of the most beloved characters on-screen. However, ahead of the release, the movie got embroiled in various controversies, including the cast not getting along, Lively’s cold war with Baldoni, and, of course, her being tone-deaf to the entire meaning of the movie.

And now Sklenar has penned down a lengthy post on his social media defending the actress and the cast of the movie stating,

I wanted to take a minute and address all this stuff swirling online. Colleen Hoover and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance, and for women choosing a better life for themselves. Vilifying the women who put so much of their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and detracts from what the movie is about.

The actor noted that whatever may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what their intention was while making the movie. He added that it’s disheartening to see the amount of negativity being projected online.

Brandon Sklenar acknowledged someone close to him has the same relationship problem as Lily Bloom in the movie, and he feels responsible for bringing this movie to life and helping spread that message further. He urged fans/readers not to spread hate online and asked them to question themselves about how their hate is helping anyone.
