The Office was a popular sitcom that aired from 2005- 2013. It was a fan-favorite show and showcased many relationships throughout its successful run. Mindy Kaling was part of the show and played Kelly Kapoor. She was paired with B.J. Novak on the sitcom, who played Ryan Howard.

The duo were famous for their toxic off-again, on-again romance in The Office. However, they had a similar relationship off-screen. Despite their ‘Complicated’ relationship, Kaling and Novak have maintained their friendship. There have been many rumors going around for many years about the 44-year-old being the father of The Office star’s children.

The actress-writer is the mother of two children, Katherine, 5, and Spencer, 2. She has never publicly shared the paternity of her children, leading some fans to speculate that their father is her longtime close friend and The Office co-star.

Kaling addressed the rumors and opened up about how she feels about the speculation. During an interview with Marie Claire, she said

“He’s the godparent to both my kids — and they have such a great relationship — and so far [the rumors have not] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or BJ. If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.”

That doesn’t mean the former Mindy Project actress isn’t willing to talk about her family’s experience, though. She stated that she would discuss Katherine and Spencer’s paternity when they are old enough to talk about it.

Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak have one of the most admirable friendships in Hollywood, and their relationship has only grown stronger over time. The duo met while working on the popular sitcom The Office and instantly connected, which was mirrored in their characters, Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard.

During the early seasons of the NBC comedy, the two temporarily had a romance. They casually dated from 2004 to 2007, but soon accepted that they were destined to stay platonic.

The former flames continued to work side by side on The Office until Kaling’s exit from the series in 2012. After leaving The Office behind, Kaling wrote, produced, and starred in her series, The Mindy Project. Novak gushed over his best pal and her accomplishments and made a guest appearance on the Fox show.

The Office co-stars have collaborated on artistic endeavors together, attended each other’s red carpet premieres, and in 2017, Novak became Mindy Kaling’s daughter’s godfather, formally joining her family.

The Office is available to stream on Netflix.
