“It just worked perfectly”: Was $400M Rich Singer In Love With Brad Pitt? Dedicated A Whole Song For Angelina Jolie’s Ex-Husband
One of the most well-known musicians in the business is Shania Twain. In her well-known 1998 song That Don’t Impress Me Much, she shocked everyone by giving actor Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie’s ex-husband, a very loud shout-out.
Interestingly, the country singer and the actor have never met. She joked about it once and said that maybe the actor was avoiding her because it was starting to seem a little personal. Fans had been curious as to why Twain mentioned Brad Pitt in her song; however, she has finally provided all the information.
Shania Twain explains why she dedicated a whole song to Brad Pitt
Country singer Shania Twain surprised everyone when her 1998 song That Doesn’t Impress Me Much was released and people heard lyrics of her giving a shout-out to Fight Club actor Brad Pitt. It’s been 25 years since the song was released but fans have always been curious about why she picked Pitt for the song.
In an interview with Smooth Country’s Eamonn Kelly, she was asked about the reason why she chose Pitt for the iconic song, to which she said,
“I know this doesn’t sound like a very thoughtful reason, but when you’re a songwriter, you’re always drawing from inspiration. A lot of that inspiration is whatever it is that’s around you. I take everything in very peripherally. And Brad Pitt’s photo and name were just everywhere at the time. It was for one reason or another.”
Twain added that there was always a reason why Brad Pitt was on the cover of the magazine as he was the headline at the time, noting that he was everywhere and the lyrics sat perfectly with him. She mentioned that “It just worked perfectly for all those reasons”, and clarified that she has no connection with Brad Pitt but said,
“I don’t know how he feels about it or whatever, but we’re both still around after all these years, which I think is kind of a cool parallel.”
Brad Pitt on board with Shania Twain replacing his name with other actors
Back in December when the country singer performed at the People’s Choice Award, she switched the lyrics from Brad Pitt to Ryan Reynolds who was at the award function and the camera zoomed toward his face and he looked elated at the mention.
Twain later on Radio Times noted that she would like to pay tribute to Channing Tatum the next time she sings that song. “It’s Channing Tatum. I’m trying to think how I would sing that.”
Brad Pitt was on board with the name change when he was asked during an interview with The Movie Dweeb and he said, “He didn’t steal it. I think we can share the wealth. Ryan’s a good egg, too. He deserves some love.” He also suggested a couple of actors who he thought could fit perfectly in the lyrics.
“I think she should pass it on and next time she can sing it to Austin Butler. Maybe Leo DiCaprio in between.”
Shania Twain is candid about her inspiration behind Man I Feel Like a Woman
The country musician who is adored by millions of fans across the world, in an interview revealed that the inspiration behind her 1999 hit Man I Feel Like a Woman was drag queens and noted;
“When I was in my late teens, I was sharing an apartment with friends. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we would all go to the gay bars together. All the guys in our group would wear makeup, and they would help me – I didn’t know how to wear make-up. I dressed more like a boy. I didn’t love being female. I didn’t love being undressed by men with their eyes and stuff like that. It just made me uncomfortable, so I down-dressed my body, and I didn’t enjoy my femininity.”
She also mentioned that she had a sense of freedom when she had men in her life who would put make-up on her, adding that she could shake her body around and feel good about being a female and it was liberating for her. Twain said that she was not self-conscious about it.
“So when I wrote Man! I Feel Like a Woman! I reflected back on how sad it was that it had taken me so long to embrace my curves, reject sexism, and embrace, for the first time, confidence in being female.”
The singer mentioned that she felt safe when she was at the gay club which makes her a little sentimental for people who are not accepted and are objectified or judged and not given a safe space to live.
