Rupert Grint and Ronald Weasley

The two weren’t that different. Maybe that’s why Rupert Grint could play the character that easily at such a small age. The three main leads, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint portrayed Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ronald Weasley from the novel respectively. Grew up on the sets of these films. In the end, they were more than just cast members they were family.

Ron Weasley is a pretty fun-loving character, very mischievous. Showing how he felt isn’t one of his strongest pursuits. As Hermoine lovingly puts it in the fifth movie he, “has the emotional range of a teaspoon.” But JK Rowling, the author of the novel had something else planned with the character. To complete the character arc perfectly, Grint had to step up his game to capture the wide range of emotions his character was going to tackle in the upcoming sequels.

Fred Weasley’s tragic death scene

As the Battle of Hogwarts commenced in the final part of the saga, Rupert Grint had to really push the boundaries as an actor to portray all the complex emotions. Fred Weasley who is Ron’s brother was killed in the battle.

“That was quite a big scene with the whole Weasley family,”  he recalled.

Fred Weasley is without a doubt one of the best-supporting characters. The perfect comic relief along with his twin brother George Weasley. The duo was one of the best attributes of the films. Dealing with death is in itself a very heavy topic to elaborate on. With which the journey of over a decade was coming to an end with this film. The end of an era as they say. The cast in itself was very heartbroken over the fact.

A scene from the final Harry Potter movie
Fred Weasley’s tragic death scene

“It was a depressing scene to do because you’ve got Fred lying on the floor and it’s quite shocking because it’s a character we’ve associated with jokes and mucking about. It’s quite horrible. There’s been a lot of heavy, emotional scenes like that.” he said.

An amalgamation of all the emotions came out in that scene according to Rupert Grint.

Rupert Grint’s thoughts on performing the scene as an actor

Needless to say, he perfectly understood the assignment and delivered his part brilliantly.

“Yeah, it’s satisfying,” he said. “But it’s quite haunting as well because I’m not really used to it. But I’ve learned quite a lot, and it’s been great. David [Yates, director of the final four Harry Potter movies] has been excellent with everything.”

The scene will forever be etched in our hearts because of the power it holds.

“There’s a scene where Rupert’s brother dies, and the amazing thing about Rupert is that he’s a very self-contained human being. It’s very rare that you see him get emotional. The minute the camera rolls, he just becomes this other thing, and he has so much, and I’m like, ‘Where does that come from?’ Anyway, there’s a scene where he cries, and I remember having to remind myself to keep acting because I just wanted to go, ‘You’re amazing! That was amazing!’ I don’t know where he pulled it from.”

Rupert Grint has blossomed into a beautiful actor and he continues to mesmerize us, the audience to this day with his capabilities.
