“It was built for one purpose only”: Tom Cruise Built Professional Grade Soccer Pitch to Woo David Beckham and Wife Victoria into Joining Scientology
Tom Cruise has been a follower of the Church of Scientology. He shared how the church had helped him overcome his dyslexia and also sought his love life. He also attended the Scientology center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony in Spain in 2004. Cruise had a brief romance with Nazanin Boniadi, a British-Iranian actress who was also a Scientologist.
The actor had tried to court many celebrities into joining the church. He approached celebrities aside from those he was collaborating in movies with. In a new revelation, the most famous people on the list of stars were David and Victoria Beckham. Mike Rinder, a senior executive in the Church of Scientology, revealed that the church had set its sights on the athlete and his wife.

Tom Cruise’s Church of Scientology built a soccer field for David Beckham
A new book written by Mike Rinder, who was a senior executive at the church, revealed the details of how they helped Tom Cruise to woo David Beckham. In the book A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology, Rinder writes about Scientology building a soccer field to show off to Beckham.
At the San Jacinto headquarters in California, construction started in order to carry out the plan. The book reveals,
“A professional-grade soccer pitch was constructed on the property at Gold [Base, church headquarters in San Jacinto, Calif.]. The ground was leveled, irrigation installed, perfect turf, goals raised.”
The church set its site on the athlete and his wife and did everything to get them on board. Rinder wrote,
“A full-time caretaker was appointed from the Gold staff … It was built for one purpose only: so Tom Cruise could woo his friend David to come to Gold. It never happened.”
The Top Gun: Maverick actor converted to Scientology by his first wife, Mimi Rogers, in 1986, and then he became an outspoken advocate of the same. The church did everything to keep the 60-year-old actor on board and went to greater lengths to make him happy.
The Scientology Church helped Tom Cruise with his love life
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new Scientology center in Spain the Mission: Impossible actor bragged about how his sister Lee Ann can find a girlfriend for him. The executives of the church took action to please the actor.
The leader of the church, David Miscavige, took the statement to his heart and started a special initiative for which auditions were asked to find a compatible love match for the actor. The Vanilla Sky actor started dating Katie Holmes in April 2005.
