“It was deeply stressful for my wife”: The Crown Star Dominic West Finally Breaks Silence on his 2020 PDA Scandal with Co-star Lily James
The Crown star Dominic West, playing King Charles III, did not fall far from the tree of his fictional persona. He was involved in a nasty PDA scandal with Lily James that shook fans and the media alike, and was “deeply stressful” for his wife. In 2020, he was snapped by paparazzi sharing an intimate moment with Lily James in Rome while he was still married.
Recently, Dominic West decided to speak out about the controversy, and how he and his wife navigated it, on Time Magazine, and even though the public and media may not be in a forgiving mood, it seems all is well on the domestic front.

The 54-year-old The Crown actor spoke to Time magazine recently and finally broke his silence on what transpired between Lily James, him, and his wife Catherine FitzGerald during the trying times of 2020, when pictures of Dominic West and Lily James being too close for anyone’s comfort surfaced online. While anxiously speaking on his wife’s behalf, he does acknowledge how,
“It was obviously horrible, particularly for her.”
However, he also lightened the serious nature of the topic by saying how he and his wife joke about the incident.
“But we do joke about it sometimes. Whenever we went out together, the papers would always say we were ‘putting on a show of unity’. Even if we’d just been rowing about parking the car or whatever, even if that couldn’t be further from the truth. And so when we go out we do sort of say, ‘Shall we go and have a show of unity up in London?’”
In the end, he acknowledges that it was a deeply stressful situation for his wife and kids. However, according to him, it was not all bad and had lighter moments, which he thinks is the best that came out of the situation.
West and FitzGerald have been married since 2010 and share four children together. Dominic West surprised onlookers as he was seen without a care in the world in Rome four years ago, where he shared a passionate embrace with Lily James while they rode a bike together, soaking up the majestic sights. According to news outlets at the time, he was not wearing his wedding ring despite being married to Catherine FitzGerald. A source close to the Daily Mail told them that James and West were apparently spending two nights in a suite at the top Hotel De La Ville.
They left the hotel to join their friend and mutual manager, Angharad Wood, at a downtown restaurant and that is when the paparazzi photographed Dominic West kissing her neck and stroking her.

The Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again actress got tons of backlash alongside West for the PDA scandal. However, as she talks to The Guardian, she divulges that even though she is addressing the issue, she is not completely ready to talk about every aspect and nuances.
“There is a lot to say, but not now, I’m afraid.”

She concluded it by saying there was definitely a lot to say but it was not the right time.
After the whole incident, Dominic West and Catherine FitzGerald issued a comment through a handwritten note that things are okay between them and their marriage is strong. So far, they seem to have successfully stood behind their word.
