Zack Snyder is undoubtedly one of the best filmmakers in Hollywood. He has helmed some of the world’s greatest movies. This is not limited to the superhero flicks he has made for the DC Extended Universe, which are the most popular work in his filmography.

These days Snyder has been making and promoting the Rebel Moon saga even though it has not landed well with the audience. This has been subjective to people’s perception of the project.

However, this does not mean that the people behind these projects did not give their best. Such is also the case of Snyder who recently revealed just how much work he put into the Rebel Moon saga.

Zack Snyder made his feature film debut nearly two decades ago with the movie Dawn of the Dead, which was a remake of the eponymous 1978 movie. He made several other movies before he directed 2013’s Man of Steel, which kickstarted the DCEU.

The movie was mostly a critical and commercial success and catapulted lead actor Henry Cavill and director Snyder to international stardom. Snyder also helmed the next movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, released in 2016. Further, he was hired to helm Justice League, but he had to step back during the post-production to deal with a personal loss.

In 2021, Snyder announced that he was working on the epic space opera Rebel Moon (via The Hollywood Reporter). The first part was released late last year, but the viewers were not as impressed with it. What was supposed to be a part-two story is now a two-part story with each having a PG-13 cut and an R-rated director cut.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Snyder was asked how the workflow was and if they took one version at a time. He replied:

The roughing-in was all together, and then it was one at a time. So it was really making four movies, and that was a little bit exhausting. It was a little more work than I thought to do four movies altogether. It would’ve been interesting to make it all as one movie.

Making four movies at the same time is not something we hear about anyone doing every day. One can only imagine what it must have been like to make something like this, and the fact that Snyder has managed to pull this kind of move is truly commendable.

Recently, there has been a controversy regarding Glen Powell’s Twisters choosing to not have intimate scenes between the lead characters. On the contrary, both PG-13 and R-rated cuts of Snyder’s movie have intimate scenes.

When asked about his opinion on big movies including scenes of affection, Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter:

I’m a huge advocate. I like erotic content in motion pictures. I don’t understand, frankly, what would be the why of that. We’re sexual creatures, and that’s what we do. So, to me, that’s part of the human experience and equal to anything else.

As for why such scenes should be excluded or included in movies, the 300 director does not have an answer to that. That said, fans can stay relieved that he is not getting rid of the affection from his movies.
