“It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen”: Jason Sudeikis Serving Olivia Wilde Child Custody Paper Forces CinemaCon to Make Major Security Changes
There are recent reports that CinemaCon security has been stepped up as a result of Olivia Wilde receiving child custody documents from her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis on stage last year. The American actress and filmmaker called it “vicious” to receive custody papers served to her while she was speaking about her film on stage.
On April 27, 2022, as Wilde was promoting her thriller, Don’t Worry Darling at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, she received the papers in a brown envelope.
According to Wilde, Sudeikis attempted to “sabotage” the event. She looked surprised as she opened the envelope, which was caught on camera. As a result, CinemaCon has reportedly stepped up its security.
CinemaCon Tightened Security Following ‘The Olivia Wilde Custody Paper Incident’
After last year’s shocking breach involving Don’t Worry Darling’s director, Olivia Wilde, the annual convention of theater owners is updating security procedures for its 2023 edition.
While giving a presentation on stage at Caesar’s Palace during the 2022 convention, Wilde received child custody papers on behalf of his ex-partner, Jason Sudeikis. Social media users were shown pictures of Wilde opening the envelope that had been smuggled to her by a process server; she later referred to this as a “vicious” incident.
This year, extra security measures have been put in place to ensure that there are no hiccups of this nature, according to multiple sources who spoke to Variety. This entails adding security personnel on the stage, as well as installing guards around the stage’s perimeter.
In addition, each studio that performs at the Caesar’s Colosseum Theater will now be in charge of all front-row seating unlike last year’s when some convention pass holders could camp out for the primary seats.
According to other people with knowledge of the plans, CinemaCon organizers made these modifications early on and have extensively communicated that the event would be safe for all attendees.
When is CinemaCon 2023 Scheduled to Occur?
Fair enough, CinemaCon is arguably the most exclusive event in the entertainment sector, and it is already heavily fortified with security measures befitting.
Additionally, there is a focus on preventing online piracy and leaks of any of the footage or trailers from upcoming blockbusters. The ‘Wilde incident’ may have been the primary reason behind this. After Olivia Wilde was served with custody papers while giving a speech at the convention, CinemaCon pledged to review its security measures.
However, Jason Sudeikis, previously confirmed that the documents were related to the jurisdiction of their two children, but his representatives claimed he was unaware of how they had been delivered.
Several months after the incident, Wilde admitted to Variety that “In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen. There was a huge breach in security, which is really scary.”
The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures, Universal, Warner Bros., and Paramount are just a few of the major studios that will be presenting at CinemaCon 2023, which will run from April 24 to 27. It will also be the first time that DC’s The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, will be screened.
