While talking about the making of Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis explained why he changed the personality of the character. The title character was more belligerent he explains but when Donald Trump announced that he will be running for president again, things changed for Sudeikis.

The character that was supposed to be a bit hostile was then turned into an optimistic character. The character was loved by the audience but the character’s personality made a major shift after there was s change in Sudeikis’s perspective about the series. The 47-year-old actor said,

“It was the culture we were living in. I’m not terribly active online, and it even affected me. Then you have Donald Trump coming down the escalator.”

He further added,

“I was like, ‘OK, this is silly,’ and then what he unlocked in people… I hated how people weren’t listening to one another. Things became very binary, and I don’t think that’s the way the world works. And, as a new parent we had our son Otis in 2014 it was like, ‘Boy, I don’t want to add to this. Yeah, I just didn’t want to portray it.”

Sudeikis said he made many changes to the story of Ted Lasso. cynicism was removed, and the storyline became much more different than what it was before Trump entered the frame. For Sudeikis, the series turned into a social justice warrior vehicle.
