Emma Roberts has got quite a filmography to her name and a new comedy is going to add to her oeuvre. The trailer of Maybe I Do dropped almost a week ago and the comedy looks as unhinged as the allegations of Emma Roberts assaulting her ex-boyfriend Evan Peters.

The marriage drama is about Allen, played by Luke Bracey having trouble committing to his long-time girlfriend Michelle, played by Emma Roberts, who wants to know where their relationship is going and if they will ever get married.

Maybe I Do is a comedic commentary on the ideals of marriage and commitment

The trailer opens in a wedding venue, where Emma Roberts‘ Michelle is shown all giggly, dressed up in a bridesmaid outfit and prepared to catch the wedding bouquet, when Luke Bracey, who plays Allen jumps in her way and catches it for her. His reason being that he isn’t sure if he wants to marry Michelle yet and to save face, he tells his girlfriend that it was a “reflex action”. To this, Michelle brutally replied, “It was the most awful moment in the whole history of women being stuck with you idiots.”

That is indeed quite a line, especially in a film that focuses on the issues of marriage and commitment.

Eventually, both the lovers’ parents decide to meet up for the first time only to find out that it is not the first time that they’re seeing each other. Coincidentally, they’re all involved in extra-marital affairs amongst themselves and now need to sort the mess out while also ensuring their children’s happiness.

Apart from the two leads already mentioned, the film has a spectacular cast with names like Richard Gere, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and William H. Macy.

Emma Roberts has quite a problematic and abusive history when it comes to commitment and relationships

While Maybe I Do looks like a promising project, Roberts has quite a few romantic comedies under her belt already. Movies such as Wild Child, Little Italy, Aquamarine, Holidate, and most famously, We’re the Millers. The latter is undisputedly a modern comedy classic, but behind the scenes of that film were tenser than anyone can fathom.

Soon after the film premiered, Emma Roberts had to face assault allegations against then boyfriend, Evan Peters. The two were in a huge fight after which Peters had to be hospitalized for a bloody nose and bite marks. The then 22-year-old Roberts was a prime suspect, but no charges were ever pressed and she was freed after an interrogation.

This has given the 31-year-old actress, who also became a mother recently, quite a reputation. And quite naturally, the tag follows her to this day.

Maybe I Do is slated for release on January 23, 2023.
