“It was unpleasantly familiar”: Kevin Spacey Trying to Seduce 16 Year Old Teenager in ‘American Beauty’ Was Traumatic For Anthony Rapp to Watch After Surviving Sexual Assault
Anthony Rapp said that he found Kevin Spacey’s role in American Beauty unpleasantly familiar to his past traumatic experiences with the Oscar-winning actor. The former House of Cards star played the role of a depressed father in the 1999 romance drama who becomes obsessed with a teenage cheerleader.
Actor Anthony Rapp has begun testifying at a trial resulting from his lawsuit alleging that the House of Cards actor attacked him with sexual intent. Kevin Spacey appeared in a New York court on Thursday, 6 October, to face allegations made against him by the actor.
Anthony Rapp Says Alleged Sexual Assault Is ‘Most traumatic single event of my life’
The actor claims that he was the victim of unwanted sexual harassment by Kevin Spacey who took advantage at a party in 1986 when the actor was just 14. During the New York trial, Anthony Rapp confessed that watching his role in the film recalled his past memories back and it was the most traumatic event of his life. Although, Kevin Spacey categorically denied the accusations.
He has been banned from Hollywood since he was accused of sexual assault. According to the sources, documents seen by the PA news agency revealed that Kevin Spacey had attacked the actor forcefully at the party by picking him up and putting him on a bed. More briefly, the accused actor pushed his body weight against Mr. Rapp before the actor tried to wriggle out with no resistance during the encounter.
Kevin Spacey Faces New York Jury in Sexual Assault Case
Mr. Spacey constantly denied all the charges and even said none of his interactions with the actor had been “to degrade or abuse him”. Other sources also reported that he denied five more allegations relating to three men, who are now in their 30s and 40s, at London’s Old Bailey on July 14.
During opening arguments in the following case, handled by Judge Lewis Kaplan, Anthony Rapp’s lawyer Peter Saghir told the jury that The House of Cards star, in his late 20s, committed unacceptable acts against his teenage client to satisfy the drive of his sexual desires. The accused actor has kept a low profile since the allegation was placed, which resulted in the rise of the #MeToo movement, which highlighted all over the world portraying abuse in the film industry. A trial is going to take place in June 2023, with a pre-hearing scheduled to take place early next year.
