- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been entangled in a legal battle since 2016.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, once regarded as not only powerful but also one of the most beloved couples in the industry, have been involved in a messy legal battle since 2016. The former couple has been battling for the custody of their minor children and their French winery, Château Miraval. Pitt and Jolie were however declared single in 2019.
Pitt & Jolie recently walked the red carpet on different days at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival for their respective movies, Wolfs and Maria. It was reported that the Venice Film Festival’s art director Alberto Barbera had to plan things very carefully so that the former couple would not cross each other. Despite recent reports of them trying to be there for the kids, new reports have suggested that the battle between them might not be over.
Reports suggest Brad Pitt is ‘furious’ with Angelina Jolie over their French winery, Château Miraval
According to reports from In Touch Weekly, the Fight Club actor Brad Pitt is furious with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie over her decision to sell their French winery, Château Miraval, back in 2021. The source says that the reason Pitt is furious is because he intended the French Winery to be his legacy for the kids. They said,
It’s a big reason why he’s so furious with Angelina. He’s passionate about it.
The LA Times reported that Pitt has accused the actress and her company, Nouvel, of secretly selling her share of their winery and the family home to seize the profits she had not earned and returns on investments she had not made. Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit and subsequent amended complaints mentioned that his investments had exceeded Jolie’s.
He also stated that the actress had reneged on exclusive buyout negotiations they had agreed to in 2021 when originally Jolie wanted out of the business. Pitt wanted a trial, along with an undoing of Jolie’s sale. The actress, however, in her lawsuit stated that the former couple had no agreement regarding two-party consent to the sale of either party’s interest in the property.
Reports by People stated that Pitt’s lawsuit regarding the winery is a response to Jolie’s refusal to sign an NDA that would prevent her from talking about the domestic abuse claims. The source added,
The reality is that Pitt refused to complete the Miraval sale with Jolie unless she agreed to be silenced about the abuse, as he demanded that $8.5 million be held back to force her to keep quiet. Ms. Jolie had no interest in speaking about what happened. She has not done so even once, and instead, she devoted her life to helping the children heal and to advocating to fix the very broken domestic violence response system in America.
The source noted that the only reason any of this has come out is because Brad Pitt decided to sue her for not agreeing to keep quiet.
Angelina Jolie’s comeback performance in Maria generates Oscar buzz
The actress walked the red carpet at the Venice International Film Festival 2024 for the world premiere of her upcoming movie Maria, directed by Pablo Larrain. Her performance as opera diva Maria Callas has received praise from the critics at the festival and has led to the buzz that she is the frontrunner for the Oscars.
During a private screening at the Toronto Film Festival, the actress shared (Via THR),
Towards the end of her life, she had highs, and the greatest highs were when she could really feel she was connecting. She also had times when she felt she couldn’t, and it really broke her, and she felt she wasn’t able to connect.
The actress introduced the movie by stating that the late opera singer passed away during the dark times in her life. Jolie added that she wishes that Maria Callas was there to see how people are interested in learning about her life, remembering her music, and appreciating her art.
In an interview with Variety, the actress was asked if she could see a parallel connection between Maria and her life. She says that she expresses herself through her work, which has helped her navigate the emotions she portrays on screen. Jolie added that she lives through communication and a sense of innocence.
The movie will premiere on Netflix as the streaming giant picked up the movie ahead of its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival 2024. However, there are no dates announced. Maria is a part of the filmmaker’s trilogy of iconic, often misunderstood women, which started with Natalie Portman playing Jacqueline Kennedy in 2016’s Jackie and Kristen Stewart playing Princess Diana in Spencer.
Spencer is available to stream on Hulu where as Jackie is available to stream on Peacock.
